Hello this is a completely different style of post than Ive ever made ever, but Im giving it a shot!
So hello, my name is Toasty, I will be giving you a little theory for The Prince of Southland by Chris Geroux on webtoon.
Anywho spoilers for the newest episode of The Prince of Southland!
Okay so we’re finally back after just over a month, I bet we’re all pretty happy about that! I sure am! And the chapter quality did not disappoint (it never does) and for that reason I am here to share my analysis so let’s jump into it!
Lets start where I started thinking something was up with Jensen, Episode 139, Jensen obviously is upset, which is extremely understandable (I think we all were because Donnie is a sweetheart and deserves the world.) One thing I noticed is the emphasis on self sacrifice, specifically when he says “Better me than him.” Now Jensen in general isn’t as self sacrificing as many of the other cast members, since his entire life was just trying to survive. A main character trait of his actually is relying on instinct to survive, causing him to act more impulsively and sometimes selfishly, but this was different. Not that I don’t think Jensen wouldn’t do anything to keep Donnie safe, but never once have we seen him think about going back to the witch for any reason, he actively avoids things that may involve the witch even if it puts a strain on him and Donnies relationship. Now he is rushing in head first, at least that is what we’re led to believe, that he has no plan. But what negates this idea that this is no more than another possibly dangerous impulsive decision from Jensen is the fact that he puts on the bullet proof vest before leaving the safe house. At first I thought nothing of it, until the newest chapter. Jensen never once has worn anything like that before, and it’s clear that this was a purposeful decision. But why? Why now? Why didn’t he do that the countless other times where he knowingly put himself in danger, and why didn’t the others do the same?
In our newest episode, episode 142, we finally see our favourite gays reunite. But something is clearly off about Jensen, first thing I really noticed was Jensen saying that he’s sorry to Donnie didn’t seem like a “Im sorry you went through that” kind of sorry, more like a “sorry for what’s about to happen” type of sorry. What lead me to this conclusion is Jensen’s expression in that panel, he doesn’t look sympathetic, but more guilty, more like he’s thinking. Now maybe Im overthinking things, but perhaps he’s really finalizing or reworking whatever plan he has to himself, he looks almost frustrated, maybe Donnies dad being there was somehow interfering with his plan. Now Im not going to negate that Jensen did most definitely get “possessed” or controlled in this episode, seeing as he would never willingly harm Donnie like that, but then he just stops, as if waking up and sprints over to Del. On his way over to Del we don’t see Jensen’s face, not even a side view, which seems almost intentional to me, I think Jensen broke the witches control. When he takes the gun from Del, the kick to the head seemed to be more of a distraction, something to quickly disorient them rather than something to subdue them completely. When Jensen grabs the gun Del is more concerned that Jensen took their gun rather than that he is being controlled, almost as if they were able to notice that Jensen appeared to be perfectly in control and realized that Jensen was clearly up to something. Another thing that caught my attention when Jensen went to attack Del was that he seemed a bit more scatter brained, at least much less methodic and robotic than the last time we saw him being puppeted by the Witch. Now one question you may have is “But toasty how did Jensen escape the Witches control??” and too that I tell you, he was close to Donnie, not just close but literally underneath him! And proximity to Donnie almost always snaps Jensen out of the Witches control (which is adorable), so that gives me a good reason to believe Jensen was able to break free and enact his plan.
Now you might be thinking “Toasty where the FUCK are you going with this?” and I’ll tell you! My theory is, and hear me out, Jensen is planning to shoot the witch, and he does find her, but unfortunately for him, he ends up getting controlled anyways.
