Real Italian calzones are tasty pizzas that are folded in half and filled with meat, cheese, vegetables, and other tasty things. They're great for a quick and filling meal.
Ingredients: 1 lb pizza dough. 1 cup marinara sauce. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese. 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni. 1/4 cup sliced black olives. 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms. 1/4 cup diced bell peppers. 1/4 cup diced onions. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
Instructions: Before you start cooking, heat the oven to 450F 230C. Split the pizza dough into four equal pieces. Roll out each piece of dough into a circle on a floured surface. Cover one half of each circle of dough with marinara sauce, leaving a thin edge. On top of the sauce, put black olives, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. To make a half-moon shape, fold the other half of the dough over the filling. Use a fork to press the edges together to seal them. Place the calzones on a baking sheet that has parchment paper on it. Cut a few small holes in the top of each calzone to let the steam out. After the oven is hot, bake the calzones for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. If you want, you can serve it hot with extra marinara sauce to dip it in.
