My Thoughts on Delicious Party Pretty Cure Ep. 12 & 13
Hi my name is BJ short for BlueJay and welcome back to the BirdHouse Diner! We're serving another double entre of episode 12 and 13 of Delicious Party Precure! Is you haven't read my thoughts on episodes 6 - 13 link is here!
Episodes 6 & 7: 🧁
Episodes 8 & 9: 🍕
Episode 10 & 11: 🍔
So without further ado, lets start cooking!
Episode 12
🩷Episode 12 is a mixed bag but in a good way. To start with my nitpick with this episode it's mainly Amane's build up as Gentle. While I do like Gentle as a antagonist it feels like the brainwashing part of Amane's story needed a bit more time to grow to get to know her better as a civilian. Episode 10 and 11 showcase this with her conflicting feelings on not wanting to hurt the recipe Pixies and her conversation with Yui. Not to mention we don't know, at least for now, why she was brainwashed and or why she was even part of the Phantom Thieves in the first place, or why food is such an important part of her life that she grew a fondness for the recipe pixies.
🩵Nevertheless this is mainly just an issue for the first 13 episodes as I wished that we focused on giving Amane sometime to grow as a character for her to get to know the cast a little better. Other than that, there are 2 highlights that I really enjoyed from this episode, for starters I love the discussion Yui has with the cures making a promise with them that if she does become mind controlled one day she knows that Kokone and Ran are going to stop her, because she doesn't want to be controlled against her will and dislike the things that she loves.
💛This leaves the cures and their fairy partners very saddened by this fact but they know that they want to help Amane to break the mind control spell. The second highlight of this episode was Rosemary protecting Cure Precious on the fight against the uboazo and gentle. Basically Rosemary being the big brother / dad of the group is always great to see as he cares for the safety of the girls despite knowing that they can take care of themselves as cures.
💜As for the rest of the episode? I do like the action sequence between cure precious and gentle more than I did with the uboazo and that's mainly due to the animation feeling quite stiff in the movements. The final team attack using the heart mixers was visually stunning so this fight gets a pass on that! This all culminates in the end of the episode where Amane breaks free of her brainwashing thanks to the help of cure precious, along with the reveal that Takumi was able to enter the delicious field learning the identities of the cures and gentle.
🥞Needless to say this was a really good episode the only downside was just Amane's role in the story and the weird brainwashing that I hope gets fleshed out later in the season.
Score: 7.5/10
Episode 13
🩷Episode 13 is a Takumi focus episode, which is well needed because he barely had any appearances throughout the first half of the show so far doing little activities with Yui. But needless to say we get a lot of lore!
To make a long story short, takumi's dad is from the Cooking Kingdom and hands takumi over the Delicious Stone whose magical powers will reveal itself for what or who Takumi wants to protect. It's pretty clear that when using the stone Takumi wants to protect Yui, his childhood friend and crush. With this he is able to transform into Black Pepper, a magical boy! And possibly an unofficial member to the delicious party crew!
🩵But that wasn't the only twist of the episode! We get to see Narcitoru in action using his new device to capture the recipe pixies turning the new upgraded monster, Motto Ubauzo! And I've already mentioned this in Narcitoru's introduction but I really like his narcissism and cocky behavior that even the cures kind of don't take seriously for how prideful he acts. Nevertheless this new monster is dangerous as it's magical abilities when capturing a recipe pixies takes away an important memory from the food itself. The poke and rice bowl that Takumi's mother Ann remembers fondly because this meal is a reminder of her love for Monpei, so stealing that memory takes away the importance of that food.
💛This is a way better concept then the previous scenario when a food pixie is taken away, all it does is make the food taste weird, not rotting or the food changes, is just a vague weird taste that nobody likes which isn't specified.
💜As for Amane? She's unconscious right now and is being taken care of by her older brothers, which is kind of weird because they don't express any worry about where she's been and why she's unconscious?? The only highlight I could say about these two is that Amane's family owns a fruit dessert shop which I find very adorable.
🍚Overall this was a really good focus episode for Takumi as it's mainly explorers his storyline and his connection to the cures.
Score: 7/10
In conclusion these past two episodes were super fun! The stakes are higher, Takumi gets some much needed screen time, new enemies and a bunch of new storylines to explore for the future! Thank you all for reading and stay hydrated!
