Android 21 considered herself fortunate today. The abandoned warehouse standing before her had survived most of the damage that had leveled the city, it seemed. Shattered windows and a caved-in roof would not deter a determined scientist coming across a largely intact building. Regardless of what it might contain - the few bits of signage that decorated the outer walls had faded away into oblivion - 21 felt obligated to investigate.
Her first surprise came as she tested the main entrance door, which opened without struggle or incident. Half expecting an obstacle already, the android gauged her surroundings, wondering if someone else had already been here. She closed the door behind her as she carefully continued on. Her heels clicked against the floor and echoed around the shelves and boxes as she walked about the space.
Curious first glances at the items around her provided little insight - the outside labels, too, seemed to have worn away over time. 21 proceeded slowly through the aisles, wondering if she might find a crowbar nearby to fully investigate what might be inside these sealed containers.
Rounding the next corner, 21 stopped dead in her tracks. One of the shelves had toppled over, its boxes strewn haphazardly about the aisle. Among the accident lay a robot, signs of damage apparent on its frame. Curiosity and concern set in quickly, and once the initial shock had worn off, she made her way to the damaged machine, kneeling beside it once she’d come close enough.
“Let’s see... How badly damaged are you?” The android spoke her thoughts aloud, unsure of what the machine before her was built for, or if it would even understand her. “Are you still functional?”
