Are you DTF? - Featured Member, Danny Frank
What is DTF?
I have been fly fishing for as long as I can remember and it completely consumes my life. To me, fly fishing has always been the perfect combination of art and sport. As I continued to dedicate my life to my passion, I began to feel a need to document it. By sharing the art that I take from fly fishing, from pictures to videos to memoirs, DTF was born.
Who are the contributors to Delta Trout Force
I consider myself lucky to not only have found my passion at such a young age, but to be able to share it with some of my best friends. Parker Clemens was my fishing partner throughout college and the one who helped me start DeltaTroutForce. Unfortunately he moved to our nations capitol after graduation but luckily for me, I had other good friends who were eager to learn to fish. Cooper Hopkins and Jack Reis are currently the other contributors to DTF and the site would not be the same without their help.
Where did you come up with the name?
The original name for the site was LifeOnTheFly. As I continued to dedicate more time to it, I really wanted the name of the site to be more representative of our style on the water. We always called our fishing trips "missions" and one day my buddy parker said, "if we call it DeltaTroutForce we could go by DTF!" We immediately knew that we had a new name.
What is the best fishing experience you have ever had?
The best fishing experience I have ever had was probably my New Zealand trip. I chose to study abroad in New Zealand just so I could have my school pay for the airfare of my dream fishing trip. Parker went to school in Australia and after we both finished classes he flew to New Zealand and we spent a month camping out in the New Zealand backcountry with no priorities other than fishing. New Zealand has some of the best trout fishing on the planet so this was a pretty incredible experience.
Have you met anyone spectacular through fly fishing?
I have been very lucky to meet some incredible people through fly fishing. I really enjoy meeting others who have dedicated themselves to this industry and have found a way to make a living in it. Whether that is through guiding or starting there own company, these are the people that have shown me if you continue to challenge yourself, you truly can turn your passion into a job.
What is your favorite aspect of fly fishing?
My favorite aspect of fly fishing is without a doubt site fishing. I love seeing the fish before I cast at it. It is almost like hunting in that aspect. This method also helps account for most of the bigger fish I catch. Not just blind casting, finding the fish I want then either getting it to eat or spooking it.
If you had an all-expense trip to any river in the world, where would you go?
I would say either a saltwater fly trip to the Seychelles or maybe an exploratory trip to Kamchatka Russia. Saltwater fly fishing is incredible and a whole new ball game, with very strong fish. Kamchatka is one of the last places in the world where you can be the first to do something so that is incredibly appealing.
Why is getting offline and outdoors so important?
From entertainment to therapy, spending time in the outdoors can do great things for people. Find your river and get out there.
Rock, Paper, or Scissors?
Rock, I feel like everyone always throws scissor.
