        SUSPICION IS UNDERSTANDABLE .  cupped so delicately within her hands are strings of pearls ,  far too precious for the paygrade of a lowborn maid .  the pendant that drapes over the back of her hand undoubtedly distinguishes the jewelry as lady alcina’s .  by all accounts ,  it must appear that indra has stooped to petty thievery ,  betrayed the honest oaths she swore upon her hire and allowed greed to guide her avaricious hands .  but beyond warranted mistrust ,  the reality is far more innocent .

“Oh, Daniela...” he calls to her in a singsong voice as he steps into the library, well aware that she’s around—lurking—even if she isn’t visible at present.

That’s the tricky thing about girls made out of flies.

There is nothing of Alcina’s that Heisenberg wants—least of all this gaudy fucking castle. But there is a small part of him that’s jealous of her library. In spite of appearances, he’s an avid reader—but he’s spent a lifetime scrounging what he can from the Duke and villagers. Books worth his while are hard to come by, and frequently expensive. Meanwhile, Alcina sits on a veritable trove of knowledge. He’s too proud to ask to use it, and would refuse were the offer extended, out of sheer pride—but what he wouldn’t give to have such a library of his own.

Maybe that’s why he’s got a soft spot for Daniela. She’s got a thirst for knowledge, just like him. The toy he’s brought her isn’t much—a small mechanical horse, a working prototype for a larger experiment that never panned out. Ultimately just a fit of whimsy that led nowhere—but with her natural curiosity she might appreciate it.
