PWDP Ep 18: Dr. Susan Nelson Talks Finding Help, Delirium, and Travel
The Long Night
@grief-worn asked: "so, damona, was it? deminny? what's the most popular thing to do around the city? i'm ah, what you'd call a tourist. please, enlighten me."
Demenia turned to look over her shoulder, hair falling in front of her face. She reached up to push it away. Her eyes and brows said she was surprised, but not unpleasantly so, to have been noticed by the woman. She must have been listening to her and the baker speak.
She paid for the fresh loaf of bread she was perusing, and thanked the woman. Then turned towards the stranger. ' Oh no, she's very pretty, ' she thought, and her face instantly flushed. However, Demenia avoided becoming a complete mess in front of the other woman. They'd hardly spoken, after all.
"Demenia," she said, her formal accent stark among the street rabble. "I would be pleased to show you around, if you'd like." She'd lived in Neverwinter for quite some time. Although she never really went to the shadier parts of town, she was familiar with the rest.
"Well, a fairly common thing to do is what I am right now: every fourthday we have a farmer's market. As you can see," she remarked and gestured towards the baker. The baker was a kind, middle-aged, human woman with rosy cheeks. She smiled when Demenia mentioned her and waved.
"You've come at such a splendid time, too! We'll be celebrating the Long Night in only a few days. Neverwinter always has a way of going above and beyond for the festivals."
˚₊·➳ THE WIZARD --
If Demenia is involved, she is chosen seemingly at random by the mindflayers to become infected one day while walking back to her apartment from the market. You can find a basket of fresh bread within the nautiloid that was being picked apart and studied by her captors (and snacked on by some thralls). Demenia may be found within the woods surrounding the crash, distracting a pissed-off bear with the illusion of a stoat. Any help with getting rid of the bear may get her in the party, but you get a big approval boost upfront if you scare the bear off or coax it away instead of killing it.
˚₊·➳ THE WARLOCK --
If Zorah is taken by the mindflayers and infected with the tadpole, she is a mixture of pissed off and excited. Pissed off, because dealing with a whole team && trying to continue doing what she needs to for her pact is exhausting. The excitement comes once she realizes the potential of the tadpole. The additional power it gives her is a thrill; any extra strength she gets is a gift, to her. She can be found rummaging in the rubble of the cashed nautiloid with a few intellect devourers dead in a circle around her, their frontal lobes charred.
˚₊·➳ THE WEREWOLF --
Frei sees her luck (or lack thereof) as infuriating, and views the situation on the nautiloid with the same deepset hatred and disgust as she views the events that led to her being cursed with lycanthropy. In fact, if one befriends Frei and allows her to discuss her lycanthropy, she will have a monologue about the unfortunate similarities between the two conditions and asks the existential question of: why in the world did the gods curse me with both of these things? Otherwise, she's an veteran, and tends to stay very goal-oriented and task-focused. Keeping her busy is vital, otherwise she starts to spiral towards doom and gloom. She may be recruited within the hag's swamp, disheveled and covered in blood after transforming and killing a group of redcaps.
For Demenia, he pulls the Queen of Swords, Reversed. "Goodness, so many reversals today. Reversed, the queen becomes cold and volatile, her wit becoming conflict. Its a sign to regain control of yourself, to try and approach people with a little more compassion."
Demenia's eyes widened. More compassion, she couldn't believe it. All this time she'd convinced herself that she was putting her kindest foot forward, and did everything in her power to demonstrate empathy. Control? Was she succumbing to the very thing she sought to run away from - whatever foul influences her mother had on her? Was she becoming her mother? The wizard's eyes sparkled with new moisture, though she held her composure together in front of the stranger. "Oh--I--I see. Thank you so much, erm.." darn, she'd already forgotten his name! "Sir?"
Subtly trembling hands were wrung together. "I'll see to it that I try to do those things, do you... should I..." Without finishing the question, the drow fished out a few coins and handed them to the man. She bit her lower lip, stood up, and began to hurry away.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 10 million new instances of dementia are identified each year, making dementia and Alzheimer's one of the most prevalent diseases today. Dementia is the fifth biggest cause of mortality among all illnesses, affecting more than 55 million people globally.
After years of looking for a cure, a new medication is now presenting a ray of hope. Lecanemab has been demonstrated in clinical studies to delay the disease's related cognitive loss. The medication targets the brain's protein clumps, which many believe to be the disease's root cause.
