Naya and I sat in the Dallas airport waiting for our flight back to L.A. to begin boarding. It had been an amazing vacation and I couldn't wait to head to Mexico with her the next week to have some alone time with her. I looked over to see her dozing off which was understandable seeing as it was five in the morning. I looked around and over to Max who was keeping a strict watch on the both of us. The airport was almost empty in our terminal but he was always on full alert. I'm still surprised he puts up with me after all that I put him through.
A few minutes later the stewardess called the first-class passengers to start boarding so I nudged Naya awake and took her hand, leading her towards the gate with Max following closely behind. We showed our passports and made our way onto the plane, settling into our large seats.
"Why do you always take that with you babe?" Naya asked her voice groggy as she pointed to my oversized pillow I had tucked beside myself.
"I don't know, it's just something I do," I smiled. "Does it bother you?"
"No, it's cute." She replied taking my hand in hers. I grinned, knowing that whenever we were in public this was Naya's way of telling me she wished she could kiss me. Every single time, she would take my hand, squeeze it lightly and smile at me, her brown eyes filled with love and adoration.
"I wish we didn't have to leave." I said as more passengers started to file onto the plane.
"Me too babe, your family is amazing. But is bad that I can't wait to get back and then go to Mexico to spend some time just me and you?" She smirked.
"Not at all." I grinned, squeezing her hand back.
The plane took off shortly after and in a few hours we were touching down in Los Angeles. I could feel the warm California air as soon as the plane slowed and I soaked it all in. Naya had fallen asleep half way through the flight in the middle of her asking me when Maddie was coming back down to L.A. to visit, and she was currently resting her brunette head on my shoulder, breathing softly. I couldn't fathom how she had been able to sleep through the landing but regardless I looked down at her, smiling, as we taxied to our gate.
She jumped up when the stewardess' voice came over the intercom causing me to giggle lightly.
"A-are we home?" She rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she slowly woke up.
"Yeah." I smiled, unbuckling my seatbelt.
We exited the plane after Max, following him as she made way for us. Naya and I waved at all the excited fans that stood in the terminal and stopped to sign a few autographs before making our way to the two limos that were waiting for us. Naya had booked a separate one for herself after we agreed it would look suspicious if both of us not only came off the same flight but left together. She walked out first after meeting her bodyguard by the baggage claim. I frowned as she was swarmed with paparazzi as she made her way to her car.
A few minutes later Max took my arm, leading me out to my limo that had just pulled up. "Don't worry Demi, I'm here." He reassured me, knowing how anxious I get around the paparazzi. We walked out only to met with a horde of them.
"Demi! Demi!" The called out as their camera bulbs flashed in my face, blinding me. "Is it true you're dating Naya Rivera?!" How did they know? "Demi! Are you and Naya real girlfriends now? Demi are you gay? Where's Wilmer Demi?" They shouted at me as I raced into the limo, hot tears streaming down my face. Max shouted obscenities at them as he hopped into the car after me, slamming the door behind him.
I felt him wrap a comforting hand around my shoulder as I let out sobs. How did they know about us? What was Naya going to say? Was it going to scare her away? Neither of us were by any means ready for this.
The limo pulled away from the curb, speeding off towards my apartment where I knew Naya would be waiting. Max kept his hand on my back, rubbing it in small circles, comforting me as we made our way through the thick Los Angeles traffic. I just wanted to see Naya. I just wanted her to hold me and tell me everything was going to be okay. What were we going to do?
After what seemed like hours we pulled up to my apartment. I pulled my hoodie over my body, pulling the hood over my head as Max led me in. There really weren't any paparazzi, but he stayed close until I was inside the building. I heard him ask if he needed to walk me up but I brushed him off, thanking him quickly before making my way upstairs.
I turned the doorknob and entered my place only to meet Naya who was waiting for me on the other side of the door with a worried expression on her face. The second our eyes met I collapsed into her arms.
"T-they know Nay." I whimpered.
"I know babe. It's gonna be okay."
An hour passed and I had received multiple calls from my manager and publicist asking me what the hell was going on but I couldn't bring myself to answer.
"What are we going to do Nay?" We were sitting on the couch, her legs draped over my lap, as we both wore troubled expressions.
"I don't know D. I'm not ready to tell the whole world. I mean, only our parents and closest friends know. I'm just scared." She looked down at her lap.
"Me too..." I trailed off, fidgeting with my bracelet that adorned my right wrist. "How did anyone even find out? I mean yeah, we were spotted together but we've told the media that we're really good friends..."
I watched as Naya pulled her phone from her pocket, swiping the screen before handing it to me. I felt my heart drop as I looked down. There were pictures of us over Christmas, holding hands, sitting close, dancing...closer than "friends" should. Then there was the kicker, the two of us kissing under the mistletoe. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Someone had hacked into my phone for the last picture, but the rest were taken when we had had family and friends over. Who would have leaked these pictures? We were so careful when everyone was around...only for this to happen.
"I don't know what we're going to do." Naya spoke up, her voice shaky as she stood up.
"Please don't leave Naya. Please don't leave me." My nerves were going crazy and I could feel my hands shaking as I looked up at Naya. Her eyes were wide with shock.
"Demi, I'm not going to leave you. Ever." She knelt down, cupping my face in her hands. "I'm scared, but we're going to get through this together okay?" She wiped the tears that were now cascading down my cheeks.
"Okay." I replied as she leaned in, pressing her lips to mine in a loving kiss. "I love you Demetria, don't ever forget that." She smiled.
"I love you too...Naya Marie..." I giggled lightly at the scowl on her face.
"Excuse me?"
"Now you know how I feel." I smirked as I wiped the last of my tears away with my sleeve.
I stood up and followed Naya into the kitchen, wrapping my arms around her waist as she opened the refrigerator. She turned around, smiling down at me as she kissed the tip of my nose and then my forehead. "It's gonna be okay Dem. I promise." She reassured me sweetly. "We're heading to Mexico in a couple days and we'll have a week and a half to figure out everything okay babe?"
"Okay Nay." I beamed up at her, my heart melting as I looked into her deep brown eyes, wiping away my worries.
