A talk held at State Arts Council; "Common spaces - places for the public in transition." The common as shared space that nobody can own and that everyone has access. A democracy demands a public common space - both mental and physical. What is shared? What is common? Language? The demand to speak a language? A common space needs to be a common infrastructure - available for all - free from commercial and private specific interest. Access to the public - access to "the Other". It's about information. Common space as part of democratic education/nurturing - spaces for confronting differences. Where everyone don't, look, think or act in the same way.

The starting point of this whole project was the creation of democratic spaces that enabled students to collectively deliberate and decide what they thought were the main challenges and opportunities facing the realization of their ideal government.

Millennials don't want a government that just talks at them. They want to build it together.
