Chapter 13

Dimitri stalked forward, the snow crunched under his heels with each determined step. He extended a clawed hand, ready to strike again when Rose pushed in front of Dimitri and placed herself between him and Mason. “What the fuck!” Mason yelled as he staggered to his feet, hand clutched to his shoulder as it bled. The bullet had only grazed him, but the blessing on it was enough to weaken his ability to heal straight away. A haze had taken hold of Dimitri’s mind, and it told him to kill. Protect. Must protect Roza.

Dimitri's eyes flicked to hers, a slight flush to his cheeks from the vodka. He lifted the bottle to his lips again but didn't look away. "I don't want to talk right now," he finally responded, placing the bottle on her coffee table with a soft thump. Dimitri reached for her; large hands gripped her hips and pulled Rose down on his lap. "I don't want to think about any of that right now," he pleaded. "Let me be distracted, Roza." Her knees were on either of his hips, her hands resting on his shoulders, feeling the firm muscles under his shirt. Her demon craved his touch, awakened by their close proximity. It was like a breath of fresh air after being around Mason. "What do you want to do, Dimitri?" Desire filled his eyes; his tongue darted out to lick his lip. "You." Rose pressed her lips to his. "You have me."

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” “Rose.” “What’s wrong, Father?” she questioned with a feigned look of innocence, “You won’t help me, so I’m speaking to God. Maybe he will help.” The bible verse continued to fall from her lips, “You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” “Why–” “If you want me to stop, you better do something else with my mouth.” Rose’s sinful smile, followed by more verses, felt blasphemous. The fact she wore the costume and prayed didn’t help. Dimitri knew what she was doing. When he didn’t move, Rose shrugged, “The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure—” Dimitri’s hand gripped Rose’s head, cutting off her words. One large hand cradled the back of her head, and the other curled around her chin, tilting her head up. “You are wicked,” he told her, his thumb dragging along the seam of her lips. “You test my limits, you know?” Her eyes lit up, rings of red glowing brighter. “I know.”

“I thought I would give you another chance,” she smirked, locking eyes with him. “Don’t you want to try to save my soul?” He sighed, clasping his hands behind his back, “You aren’t here to hear my sermons, Rose.” “Sure I am.” Rose lowered herself to the seat of the front pew, crossing her legs purposely so that he would have seen a flash of underwear if he was looking. “Tell me the one about the fires of hell again. I liked that one,” she laughed, red lips pulled into a smile that made many knees buckle.
