fallen star
all the good omens hype makes me want to write a Demon!Percival AU. So here’s a train of thoughts :
Demon!Percival, yes. but what kind of demon? do we just go all the way and say he’s a fallen angel, millenia old, who passes the time by operating as director of magical security? because right, he’s not actually a wizard, but he’s a demon, so that’s good enough.
maybe the Graves ‘family’ is actually just a bunch of fallen angels who didn’t quite fit in hell and didn’t quite fit among humans either, so they joined the wizarding world and had babies;
so that would mean 3 communities - magical, human, and divine. jk rowling didn’t quite touch on religion in the hp books so we can go wild;
after all if in her world vampires and werewolves and witches and centaurs are real, why not demons and angels?
so Percival Graves is a demon. since their connection to Hell has been - well, severed - oh wait
Grindelwald is a demon too, of course
but not used to humanity; he’s just like a demon of chaos of whatever, a Lord of Hell, and he’s up there to make some trouble
he did manage quite well with Hitler and then he learned there’s an entire hidden magical community at peace? that just won’t do
when he finds Percival oh he is delighted
another demon !
except Percival isn’t really a proper demon. he’s kind of forgotten how to be a demon. yk. he saves people. does paperwork. it’s a dull life.
Grindelwald gets in touch with him, you know the rest
I like the idea of Percival, afterwards, not bothering to his his demonic nature anymore
just imagine how magnificent he’d be sitting on top of the New York roofs, looking out at the city he’s sworn to protect
his black, heavy, huge wings spread out behind him;
he’d look gorgeous as a demon like those three-piece suit feat golden souless eyes and dark wings? gosh
he’s a sort of guardian angel to new york city, its protector
and if there are demons... that means there are angels too
now i want a good omens/fb crossover anywAY
or, another option - Percival has no idea he’s a demon
but maybe Newt, who’s an angel (or just a good demon conoisseur) can sense it from miles away
lslkjdks maybe Newt knew him before, before the Fall, in Heaven; or knew his - well - his demonic parents, i suppose, since we said it was a family?
either way he recognizes Graves as a demon, so of course his first instinct is to see him as a threat
but then it turns out Graves isn’t actually Graves, he’s something much worse; and the real Graves might be a demon but he’s........ soft
Angel!Newt (the patron saint of animals and plants) and Graves sitting on top of roofs, contemplating the city in the aftermath of the obscurus and sharing a bottle of wine
“what will you do now?” newt asks.
“i don’t know,” says graves. he flaps his wings behind him, still unused to the weight, the feel of them. newt had helped him groom them that very morning, before they left to watch the sunrise. “i’ll contact hell, see what they have to say about me. and i’ll make sure to keep grindelwald in check, i suppose. that fucking bastard. im pretty sure even what he did is in hell’s bad books. you can’t just attack a fellow demon,” he grumbles, and takes a swig of the bottle. newt smiles sadly. “what about you, angel?”
i don’t know,” newt says vaguely. “i have the premises for a secnd book. i’ll be travelling some more.”
“what did you do before you worked as a magizoologist?”
“i was a teacher.”
“hmm. and how long have you been on earth again? why did they send you here?”
“to protect the animals,” newt says. “but there’s just so many of them... and only one of me.”
“credence is with you now.”
“yes. he’s a good kid.”
“well. good luck then, newt. or should I say Ariel? angel of nature.”
newt blushes. “newt is fine. i haven’t used that other name in so long.”
they spend dawn together and finish the bottle. graves then accompanies newt to the harbour and they part with a friendly hug.
something tells graves they’ll be seeing each other very, very other in the next few centuries
