It’s been awhile! And as the last Demon Busters installment of 2025 we have our enigmatic Water Hashira! Initially Shinobu was supposed to be next, but after taking a vote several months ago you guys decided that Giyuu should be next!
For anyone who’s new here, this a a modern kny x ghostbusters inspired au where people have been dying to demon attacks at alarming rates so the Demon Busters (the updated and rebranded Demon Slayer Corps) need a way to get more people to call them since their internal resources can only go so fast. So, they run ad campaigns! This time we’re going to talking about our stoic and serious Water Hashira, Giyuu Tomioka!

Giyuu Tomioka is known for being quite difficult to deal with. He's quiet, stand-offish, and not really known for socializing with his fellow hashira. He gets straight to business, which is fine, because slaying demons is serious business after all.
As far as his public standing goes, despite the mixed reviews from his coworkers, he is perceived fairly well. He has a job, and he does it well. That is undeniable. He is not one for pleasantries, and he is gone just as quickly and quietly as he came.
Not much changes with Giyuu in this au. The only major change I have lined up for him is that he actually stays in the Kamado sibling's lives and adopts Tanjirou as his Tsuguko despite Tanjirou being the heir to sun breathing. As a result, Tanjirou ends up being fairly proficient in water breathing like in canon, but it's obvious that sun breathing is his forte. Giyuu is also a little bit more serious about finding his "replacement" in this au. When Urokodaki told him that he should take Tanjirou on as his tsuguko, Giyuu was dead set on training him to be the next water hashira. Due to this development, Giyuu and his relationship to Tanjirou and Nezuko gets more time.
He is also considered the most "professional" hashira out of the group. He is cordial and is intent to see his coworkers as just that—coworkers. Giyuu views Demon Busting as a job that shouldn't exist, but is a necessary evil in order to protect humanity from the clutches of the demon king. Of course his so-called "professionalism" gets called into question when it's discovered that he not only spared a demon, but allowed it and it's brother to join their ranks as Busters. And what do you mean both of them are related to the now deceased Sun Hashira??
Regardless, big changes are coming to the Demon Busters, and with his job constantly on the chopping block Giyuu is right in the middle of it. Maybe in the midst of all this chaos he'll learn to cherish the time he has with the others, and perhaps that cordial behavior disguised as "being professional" is just a cover up for something else?
Also who knew that personally sheltering the Sun Hashira's kid and his demon sister would earn him a big fat target on his back from the demon king?? He really doesn't get paid enough for this...
