It’s basically canon that ryou have some sort of fixation on the occult. 

so think about it: post canon, exorcist, demon hunter constantine style, badass ryou.

It was probably 2am, Ryou just killed some demons and he wanted some coffee. You know, everyday stuff

It’s your crazy neighbor again, let’s talk demon hunter Ryou. I mean wow, you guys really liked my stupid idea, thank y’all. 

 Some years after his yami went gone, Ryou found out that a little bit of his power stayed within the scars his twisted friend gave him.

 The tattoos he possesses were created by a certain blonde egyptian and his sister in order to concentrate and control that power. The hand is a little side effect that manifest when ryou uses the necromancer magic. Nothing to be alarmed, at least that is what he tells himself.

Story time:

Out of any element, I really believe that mark is most connected with fire( with all the ra stuff and you know… the having an intricate symbol burned into his back…ehr…thing). Then the first thing that came to my mind was a pyromancer.
