Sterling was a little nervous asking her. He’d never actually WORKED with an avenger before. Befriended them, yes, but never went on a mission with one. Never seen one in action with his own eyes other than evacuating civilians from one of their epic battles. It was strange to think he’d even have access to one for something that wasn’t a world ending situation but Black Widow was a SHIELD agent at the end of the day as well. 

This just seemed below he pay grade to him.

TO: URGENT! @agentariannagrace  , @broken-weapon , @shieldshawk , @agentsterling He’d been upside down on Phil’s couch, his legs hooked over the back of it when his e-mail had pinged. And so damn close--Well. Close was relative, but still. New York. Just over the lake, and down a little. Everything he’d been gathering about Bancroft had been pointing to him running north--And just like he’d thought. Pulling out his work phone, he called Natasha. If he really wanted to track this bastard down, he wanted her with him. The phone rang once--twice. “Tasha. We’ve got a hit on Bancroft. How fast can you get to Upstate New York?” @demonsliveinstillwaters

Jin had taken his own car to pick up Sterling and his agents from the airport. He could have made a big show and sent a driver, but he wanted to keep this on the downlow. His men and his uncle’s men were starting to ask questions. The less people who knew the details of this, the better.

He was in the pickup lane, leaning against his car, smoking a cigarette. There were a number of people honking at him, trying to get him out of the lane so that they could pick up the waiting arrivals and bring them to their destinations, but Jin didn’t care. He studiously ignored them and kept his eyes trained on the airport exit for Sterling. As a foreigner, he wouldn’t be hard to spot.

It was over.

His uncle was dead. His best friend had betrayed him and died for it. The Sakai family was disbanded and Jin was public enemy number one in Tsushima’s underworld. Hell, there were probably people on the mainland who wanted his head too. He wasn’t safe here. He wasn’t going to be safe here for a very long time.

He managed to sneak back to the family offices to retrieve the mempo--the real one--and a few other keepsakes. He’d swept his apartment too, taking only what he couldn’t bear to leave behind. Everything he was taking lay packed away in two suitcases near his front door, waiting for him to leave. It was heartbreaking.

Jin stood on the balcony of his apartment, smoking one last cigarette before it was time to leave. Agents Sterling, Amador, and Romanoff assured him that if he went with them to America, he would be safe, that there would be a place for him there. He would go, of course. It was the smart thing to do. But he would miss Tsushima, and he wanted one last look before he had to leave for the forseeable future.

Jin barely heard her over the din of the other customers in the izakaya. It was getting a little rowdy. Almost too rowdy for his liking, but he wasn’t ready to leave quite yet. 

He was shocked to see a foreigner here (this bar wasn’t exactly a tourist spot) and even more shocked to see that she was alone.

“Your Japanese is impeccable,” he said, taking a sip of his shochu. “But don’t worry. I can handle my liquor.”

It had been a long time since he’d really let loose at one of these places. Getting drunk wasn’t as fun when his friend Ryuzo wasn’t there to get drunk with him.

Death I can come to terms with. Death is something I’ve been ready to welcome since the first day of ‘school’ in Russia. Death would be welcome.

This is something else entirely. Something I’m not sure how to come to terns with. I was ready to not only die, but cease to even exist.

Living is what I’m coming to terms with - and I’m not sure I know how to do that.

Just so long as you know you don’t have to do that alone, take as long as you need, Tash. I’ll be waitin’ right here when you’re ready.
