Parenting (Male Hashira x FemReader)
Description: These are my head cannons and rankings for how I think the male Hashira would be as parents/ if they would be parents. I’m just pretending this is a happy world where everyone is safe.
Warnings: Some manga spoilers, but will note them separately as needed. Other than that mostly just fluff.
A/N: It’s been a hot minute. All I can say is that life happened and I just needed a break. I’m not sure how often I’ll be writing, but I’m going to ease back into it. Also a reminder that I only write for of aged characters. Enjoy!
Kyojuro Rengoku: 9.5/10
- This man would probably have been one of the best dads out of all the Hashira. He gives me the vibe that his child would always be his number one priority (as it should be).
- He would do anything he could to make sure his child felt loved and cared for at all times. Rengoku would not want his child to have the same childhood he had.
- That being said I could him being a little panicked when he learns that you’re expecting, especially your first one. The trauma from his past would be on his mind, but overtime he knows he won’t turn out like his dad did
- On a happier note I see Rengoku being extremely active in his child’s life. Constantly playing with them, changing more diapers than you (😂), and honestly I could see him having a bit of separation anxiety as his kid gets older and goes off to school(way worse if it’s a girl. He’d def be a hardcore girl dad) He just wants to be in his baby’s life
It’s early when you wake up, the sun light barely casting the bedroom in a soft glow. You peek your eyes open looking at the now empty space of where your husband had slept. You brush the sleep out of your eyes before throwing the covers off your body. You quietly pad into the main living space of the house, knowing exactly where Kyojuro was. It’s not long before you catch the fiery red hair of your husband and hear his still sleep heavy voice as he coos at your daughter. “It’s ok little flame, Daddy’s here”, he whispers as he rocks her in his arms. You lean on the door frame wanting to take in this quiet moment as you watch him comfort your daughter. It’s not long before Rengoku takes note of your presence. “Sorry love, I was hoping to let you sleep in”, he says softly turning to look at you. You smile, “It’s ok, I like this a lot better”, you respond before coming to stand next him. Your fingers delicately brush your daughter’s hair away from her face. “She looks so much like you”, you mummer resting your head on his shoulder. Rengoku quietly laughs before kissing the top of your head. “She might have my looks, but I have a feeling she’s going to have her mother’s attitude”, he quips back. You give him a little side eye before resting your head back on his shoulder. “Well then, she’s perfect”, you whisper.
Uzui Tengen: 7.5/10 *Slight spoiler
*For easier purposes the child in the snippet is the readers, but everyone treats him as their own*
- Based off the manga he is one of 3 Hashira who canonically has descendants so that means he does become a dad. Now that being said I believe Tengen would be a hands on and hands off kind of parent. What I mean by that is I totally see him being the type of dad to support his kids in physical things, so he’s gonna be the “sports” dad
- When it comes to other things I see him letting his wives take the lead on various things while he is in the background. I’m not saying he’d be unemotionally available, I just believe he’d leave that kind of work to people he believes are more in tune with their emotions
- For some reason I also see him continuing traditions. Even with how things end at the end of the manga (that’s all I’ll say) I still see Tengen training his child in the ways of the Demon Slayer Corps. His child/ children will definitely be able to wield swords/ weapons with ease
- It takes a village to raise a child and even though he has his own mini village, he will still help out in ways that he can. He’s going to make sure that his child is well cared and protected
“Uzui what the hell were you thinking?”, you hear Makio scream from somewhere in the house. You give a Hinatsuru a quizzical look before poking your head out of the kitchen. Just then you see a flash of white hair zoom past you as your son races past the kitchen. Normally you’d leave him to his antics, but when you zero in on what he holds in his hands, you’re ready to kill your husband. “Why the hell does he have your swords?”, you yell before you chase after your son who’s about to take a swing at the door. Just before your son lets go, the weapons disappear from his grasp as Tengen finally makes his appearance, snatching them before they can do any damage. “I was just training him”, he responds gruffly. “Training?”, Suma asks as you say, “He’s five years old Uzui”, arms crossed over his chest. Makio and Hinatsuru follow your movements and Tengen knows he’s in for it. “Alright, maybe it’s not the best idea-“, he starts. But he is quickly cut off, “You think?”, Makio asks frustration seeping through her voice. You roll your eyes at your husband before picking up your son. “Darling we don’t use those in the house”, you tell him. “But Mama-“, he starts. “No buts, now you apologize to the others”, you say sternly. “Sorry”, he mumbles and you pass him off to Suma. “Tengen kitchen now”, you say sternly. Tengen simply sighs in response as he follows you into the kitchen where he knows he’s about to have his ear chewed out.
Giyuu Tomioka: 8.5/10 *Major spoiler warning*
- One of the three Hashira who canonically has descendants. Though Giyuu seems to be more closed off and distant, I do actually see him being a very good dad, especially with demons no longer being a threat. He would not be afraid of losing his child the same way he lost his sister.
- Giyuu would put his child on a pedestal, similar to Rengoku I definitely see him being a hardcore girl dad, the moment he holds her in his arms he falls in love all over again. He’s gonna be there every step of the way and will do anything he can to give them a good life
- Giyuu gives me soft dad vibes. When it comes down to it, reader has to be the bad cop, the one who disciplines. I’m not saying Giyuu won’t step up when he needs to, he just doesn’t like telling his baby girl no. However during the teen years I see him being a little more bad cop cause as much as he loves them he’s not taking the attitude
- For some reason I see Giyuu wanting one girl and one boy, a perfect mix of you two. No one’s life is perfect, but for some reason after having kids and settling down I see Giyuu being very content with his life. You’ll see a happier and more carefree side of him and you know it’s all thanks to the little ones.
“Again Dada, Again”, you hear your daughter Tsutako exclaim with joy as your husband sets her back down on her feet. “Well Dada is getting a little tired sweetie”, he responds. You chuckle as the puppy dog pout graces your daughter’s face and you know Giyuu’s a goner, unable to say no to that face. “One more time, but that’s it”, he says before scooping her back up, spinning her around the room. Tsutako’s laughter fills the air once more. After a few minutes you interject the fun, “Alright, it’s time for bed now”, you say as Giyuu places her back down once more. “Aww”, she pouts, but when you give her the look she races off to get a ready for bed. Giyuu leans down to give you a quick peck and gentle rub of your nearly swollen belly. “You ready for the next one?”, he asks. “If he’s anything like our daughter say goodbye to peace and quiet for the next few years”, you say with a tired chuckle. “Yeah but is that really a bad thing?”, Giyuu questions with his own tired smile. You shake your head, “I wouldn’t want anything else”, you reply softly, grateful for the life you have now.
Sanemi Shinazugawa: 5/10 *Major Spoiler Warning
- Listen if I hadn’t read the manga then to be completely honest I would not see him being a father at all. He’s gone through so much trauma from not only his father, but also by losing his entire family. However, he is the other Hashira who canonically has descendants. That being said, Sanemi gives me the background father type of vibe. It’s not that he doesn’t love them, it’s more of the fact he doesn’t want to “ruin” their childhood because he knows he has his own problems that he doesn’t to pass onto his kids.
- Overtime I do see Sanemi warming up to being a Dad. He’s going to have his good and his bad days. When he is having a bad day, he knows you’ll be with him every step of the way, helping.
- Sanemi def gives me Helicopter Dad vibes, especially for his first kid. They trip, he’s running full speed to pick them up, would be the dad go walk his kid all the way into the classroom and make sure all the other kids know to not mess with his kid
- While Sanemi wouldn’t be the best at emotions, he’s the type of person to give quiet love. At the end of the Manga you see a softer side of him peeking though and I def think that side of him would be more pronounced in private settings, such as the snippet below (I know he doesn’t give soft vibes in the anime, but you’ll see in the end how Sanemi is changed)
You lean against the door frame watching your husband stand next to the crib with an uneasy expression on his face. You continue to watch has your son grips his father’s hand. “I’m scared I’m going to fuck this up”, Sanemi says quietly, knowing you can hear him. “Nobody is perfect”, you respond coming to stand next to him. You lean down and pick up the small boy with snow white hair. “Do you want to try holding him?”, you ask softly. “I don’t want to hurt him”, Sanemi responds. “You won’t”, you tell him and move to place the baby in his arms. You hear his heavy intake of breath as he cradles the baby securely. “See, you got this”, you tell him with a smile as you squeeze Sanemi’s biceps reassuringly. It’s quiet for a moment as Sanemi takes in his son. “He’s got your nose”, he says after a bit and you swear his voice cracks. “He’s..so…beautiful”, Sanemi continues quietly. You look up at him are surprised to see tears gathering on the corners of his eyes. “Nemi?”, you question softly. “He’s perfect”, Sanemi whispers before leaning down to kiss his forehead. “Daddy’s here”, Sanemi coos as your son begins to wake up and for the first time in a long time you see a genuinely happy smile appear on your husband’s face.
Obanai Iguro: 8/10
- similar to Sanemi I really don’t see him being a parent in this life time, his backstory is so incredibly sad that he would be too traumatized to have a kid. But since this is a happy world, similar to Giyuu he would be a soft dad all the way and I do think he’d be a good dad
- Obanai would have an incredibly hard time telling his child no. He would be the dad that would shower his child with cute gifts. Cute hair-bows for his daughter, stuffies for his son. It would get to the point where you’d have to be like, darling we don’t need another teddy bear lol
- Similar to the others he’s going to be fiercely protective of his kid. He understands that kids need to learn on their own sometimes, but he’s going to have a hard time letting them go. For some reason I see him always walking his kid to school and when they say one day they want to do it alone he’d be so heartbroken and would “secretly” still follow them to make sure they get there safely
- Obanai will be very involved in his child’s life. Will be there at sport events, an extracurricular activities, etc. He wants his kid to know that no matter what happens he will always be there
“Does he really have to go to school already?”, Obanai asks as he watches you help your son put his shoes on. You sigh, you’ve been having this fight with husband for the past two months. “He’s seven years old, it’s time”, you say as you stand up, turning to look at him. “Don’t worry Papa, I’ll be fine”, comes your son’s voice from the doorway. Obanai sighs, before relenting. “Fine, but if you hate it or people are mean to you, you can come straight home”, he tells the still small boy. “Iguro”, you warn. But he ignores you, helping the boy put on his backpack. “Alright, let’s go”, he says excitedly. Later both you and Obanai stand outside the school, after watching your son meet his teacher and new classmates. “He’s going to be ok”, you tell him quietly as other parents begin to dispersed. “He’s growing up to fast”, Obanai responds and you hear a tinge of sadness in his voice. “Well he’s only seven darling, so we have a couple years left with him at home”, you tell him as you grab his hand pulling him along. “Besides now that he’s at school, we can have some uninterrupted alone time”, you continue with a sly smile on his face. Obanai picks up on your mood instantly, “Let’s hurry home”, he says now pulling you along, as you chuckle. Maybe school wouldn’t be such a bad thing for his son.
Gyomei Himejima 9.5/10
- this man is already Dad material, he had a whole orphanage of children. So he’s already got a decent amount of skills for raising kids and out of all the characters I really see him wanting kids in a safer world
- Gyomei would be so active in raising his child. Changing diapers, making bottles, etc, he’s going to be doing it. I feel like you’d have to step in be like I can feed our kid too. You gave birth to his whole world basically, so he would definitely be making an effort to let you rest up.
- Similar to Tengen I also see Gyomei as someone who keeps passing traditions down. So your child will also be trained and be able to wield weapons with ease. Gyomei is a hulking man, so be prepared to have a similar child (lol, that’s gonna be one big baby), but he or she would follow in their fathers footsteps
- Finally I see Gyomei as being a very practical parent. He wants his child have a better life than he did, but he also wants to keep them grounded. What I mean by that is Gyomei would really emphasize protecting weak and keeping them open minded. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly and his child would be raised to have that same mindset
Your child’s cries is what awakens you. You didn’t even want to think about the time, it was still pitch black outside. You desperately wanted sleep, but your child came first. So you groan, throwing the covers off of yourself, but before you can even get up, Gyomei is placing the blankets back on top of you. “Sleep”, he commands in deep voice. “No, it’s mine turn”, you tell him, moving the blankets again. “Stay”, he says again, before leaning down to peck your forehead. “You need rest love, your body is still healing from birth, I will handle this”, Gyomei continues, before moving to pick up his daughter. You watch as he expertly holds her stopping her cries almost instantly. Sleep finds you as Gyomei softly rocks the baby back and forth. “Shh little one”, is the last you register before fatigue pulls you back under.
