Extended Break:
Hey guys, I’m sorry but I think I’m going to take an extended break from writing/tumblr. I just don’t have motivation to write at the moment and I’m dealing with a lot in my personal life. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but it could be a few months. As always thanks for the support and hopefully I’ll be back.
Date (Kyojuro Rengoku x Reader)
Description: The four times Rengoku tries to ask reader out on a date and the one time he finally does
Warnings: Mostly fluff, mentions of injuries, mentions of fights. Gender Neutral reader
A/N: Hello! It’s been a very long time since I’ve done a standalone drabble for Rengoku, so I am happy to finally have the opportunity to do this! Anyway here is the fourth fic for the 2025ber Month Five Times Series (here). I hope you enjoy it, thanks for the support and I hope you all have a great week! Next up will be Levi 😊.
First Time:
Kyojuro Rengoku was not a man of many words, he was often blunt and straight to the point. Some would say he was tactless, while others appreciated his ability to speak the hard truth when necessary. One of those people was you. It was this that initially drew the flame breather closer to you and eventually a bond of friendship was formed. But overtime, Rengoku was having a hard time keeping his growing feelings at bay. The more time he spent with you, the more his feelings grew and it was getting to the point that it was painfully obvious to the other Hashira how much he cared for you. The only person who didn’t know was you. “You just have to ask L/N out”, Tengen tells him one evening after finishing up a mission. “How?”, Rengoku question. “Think of something they’d like to do, then ask to join them”, he friend replies and so that’s what the Flame Hashira planned to do. Unfortunately this plan forgot one little thing, that as one of his closes friends, you just assumed that he wanted to go…as friends. So, later when you give an excited, “Yes!”, Rengoku’s heart nearly shatters when you say, “Your one of my best friends, of course I’d love to go with you”. Instead of correcting you, Rengoku simply shares in your enthusiasm halfheartedly, wondering if maybe this was a wasted effort.
Second Time:
The next time Rengoku tries to ask you out, it simply gets interrupted. It had been been a clear summer evening, though the temperature was still warm, it was the clear the peak of summer heat had begun to pass as Rengoku no longer broke out into a sweat just by walking. You were there too, enjoying the evening stroll. You stop for a moment, eyes watching as the lowering sun begins to fade from the view, the evening sky bathed in a mix of colors, some that reminded you of Rengoku’s hair. “I could never tire of this view”, you say aloud, a small smile gracing your features. Rengoku sighs in agreement, before wondering if this was his chance. “Listen Y/N, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask for a while now”, the Flame Hashira begins. “What is it?”, you ask, face turning to look at his, noting a dusting of blush on his cheek, making you more curious. “I value our friendship, but after spending more time together I was wondering how you would feel about-”, Rengoku starts, but the familiar “Caw”, of you crow interjects before he finish. “Mission Alert!”, the raven haired bird caws at it lands on your shoulder. You look apologetically at Kyojuro. “I’m sorry”, you tell him. Rengoku shakes his head, “It can wait, you have more pressing matters to attend to. Please be safe”, he tells you. Though disappointed at how close he was, it could wait. Saving someone’s life was more important than him asking you out on a date.
Third Time:
A tough sparring match is the next time he nearly asks you out. Your muscles ache when you finally stand up from your defensive position. The spar had been brutal. Though Rengoku was your friend, when it came to fighting, he never held back, something you appreciated. “That was good”, you tell him, heading towards the well to grab some water. “Your sword skills never cease to amaze me”, he replies. As you near the well, you turn for a moment, looking back at him. “Oh what did you want to ask me the other day?”, you question. Though the mission had been longer than anticipated, Rengoku hadn’t gotten around to bringing up the question. “Oh, uh that”, he responds. You lean down to fetch the bucket in the well. “Well I uh..well truthfully I was hoping to ask you out on a date L/N”, Rengoku finally says. But when he looks up toward you his hopes are dashed again. You had been too preoccupied with getting water from the well that even with his booming voice, you simply hadn’t heard him. Rengoku sighs deeply, slightly frustrated at your lack of attention. “Well are you going to ask?”, you question when finally managed to pull the bucket up. Kyojuro just shakes his head, “Another time”, he says before walking back to the training grounds, foregoing any water, leaving you confused as he saunters away.
Fourth Time:
Fear rips through Rengoku’s body as he watches you get flung into a patch of trees. “Y/N”, he roars, wanting desperately to run after you, but knowing he couldn’t, not until he beheaded the demon. With white hot anger coursing through his veins he makes quick work, his blade slashing through the demons neck so quickly that it hadn’t fully registered its own demise. Rengoku didn’t care, after making sure it was burning away, he raced over to the area he had seen you get thrown. “Y/N”, he calls out, hoping you hadn’t been too severely injured. He hears some rustling off to his left and has he approaches the spot he finally lays eyes on you. You had begun to sit up, groaning in pain. “Are you ok?”, he questions, rushing to your side. “That fucking hurt”, you continue groaning. Rengoku moves to pull you into a hug when you cry out in pain, causing him to back off immediately. “I think it broke my ribs”, you say wincing as you rest your hand on your ribcage. “Can you walk?”, Rengoku asks, moving aside to help you stand up. “Slowly”, is all you say as you rise from the ground, but the world starts to spin and you fall back to the ground. “Never mind”, you tell him. “No matter I’ll carry you”, Rengoku tells you and before you can protest he scoops you up in his arms. “So”, you say after a few minutes. “Are you going to ask me that question?”, you say, looking up at the Flame Hashira as he continues to carry you as if you weighed nothing. He half grins at you, contemplating for a moment before answering. “It’s not a good time, you’re injured and most likely have a concussion, so I promise I will ask, but not now”, he tells you honestly. Though you desperately wanted him to ask, you respected his response, falling silent for the rest of the journey home.
When it finally happens:
Two weeks later Shinobu finally clears you medically and with a promise to the Insect Pillar to not rush back in to things, you find yourself release from the Butterfly Estate. After asking around, you make a beeline for Rengoku, hoping he would finally ask the question that’s been bugging you for weeks now. “I’m glad to see you up and moving”, Rengoku says as you come into view. You ignore the his statement, “Ask me”, you tell him plainly. “Ok”, he responds before standing up, moving to step closer to you. “Would you like to go on a date?”, he finally asks, his eyes looking into yours, hopeful. You smile, “Yes, I would”, you tell him. Rengoku pulls you into a tight hug and though you wince slightly from the pain, you couldn’t care less. You were happy to be in his arms.
Proposal (Kento Nanami x Reader)
Description: The four times Nanami tries to propose to you, and the one time he finally does
Warnings: Slight mention of injuries, but mostly fluff. Gender Neutral Reader
A/N: Heyyooo! Here is my third fic for my end of year writing project. I’ll be on vacation in Hong Kong next week, so my blog probably won’t be so active. But don’t worry I already have the Demon Slayer fic scheduled for posting while I’m away. As always that’s for the support and hope you are all having a great week ❤️.
First Time:
Nanami didn’t consider himself the type to wing things, if he could, he would plan things out. However there was one time he considered throwing caution to the wind and propose to you the moment he had you alone. The ring was burning a hole in his pocket since he had bought it that December morning when you had been tasked with a solo mission. So, Nanami had taken the opportunity to run out with Shoko and finally get a ring. It so happened that hours later when you had vanquished the curse that Nanami found you two alone, the ring still in his pocket, having no time to deposit in a safe place at home. It was in that very moment he nearly pulled it out. However when he saw the fatigue in your eyes, the limp in your step as you moved to hug him, Nanami knew this wasn’t the right time. So he kept the ring securely in his pocket as he grabbed hold of you gently, helping you to Shoko’s for treatment.
Second Time:
The next time he nearly proposed, he had a plan. He had taken you to your favorite cafe for brunch, which also happened to be the place the two of you had your first date. “This place has barely changed”, you tell him as you sit down in the well worn chair, eyeing the menu. “I know, it still looks the same as the day I met you”, he responds, joining you at the table. “Unfortunately time has not be so kind to you”, you tell him playfully pointing at a few strands of grey hair that were starting to show. “Wow and here I was going to say you still look as beautiful as the day I met you”, Nanami says in faux hurt, causing your cheeks to blush. “Can you believe we’ve been together for over three years now?”, you ask. Nanami smiled, happy with the direction this conversation was going. “No I can’t”, he replies, reaching out to squeeze your hand, enjoying the warm moment. You smile and Nanami’s heart flutters and he knows it’s now or never. “Listen Y/N, there’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about”, he begins. And you nod your head indicating him to go forward. “Since we are on the topic of our relationship-”, he begins, but the buzz on the table silences him. You give him an apologetic look before you look down to see who was calling. “It’s Yaga”, you tell him. “You should take it, I can wait”, Nanami tells you with a light smile. You answer, but as he sees your face turn to concern, he knows he’ll have to wait for another time. “Sweetheart I’m sorry but we need to go”, you say when you end the phone call. “Is everything ok?”, he asks voiced filled with concern. “It’s Geto”, is all you need to say before the two of you hurry out the door after a quick apology to the owner.
Third Time:
The next time he nearly asks you is in the cold sterile room of the hospital. Nanami sits by your bedside, continually staring at you, pushing through the fatigue to stay awake. Shoko had told him you’d be fine, your injury had been deep, but she had healed it with no issues. You only remained at the hospital for observation. Regardless Nanami still worried deeply, not leaving your side. When he sees the twitch of your hand he’s by your side instantly. “Y/N?”, he asks softly. It takes a moment for you for to respond but when you do Nanami breathes a sigh of release. “Ken?”, you murmur opening your eyes, his face coming into view. “Hey, how do you feel?”, he asks, grabbing your hand to kiss it. “Tired, a bit sore…but mostly tired”, you respond, giving him a weak smile. He leans closer giving you a soft peck before pulling away. “You scared me, I thought”, he trails off not wanting to say those three words. “I’m here Ken, I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon”, you tell him, hand weakly cupping his cheek. For a split second Nanami considers asking you now, but as he hears familiar heels clacking against the tile floor, he abets again. He knew there would be a better time to ask.
Fourth Time:
It was a clear spring day when Nanami thought he had finally found the right time to ask you. The two of you walked hand and hand as you strolled through the park enjoying the blooming cherry blossoms. His hand slips into his coat pocket grasping the box that held the ring. “Isn’t this beautiful Ken?”, you ask him as you continue to stare at the trees, enamored by their beauty. While he couldn’t deny that the view pleased his eyes, he was here more for you than for cherry blossoms. “It’s a shame they only last for about two weeks”, he replies before he pulls you away from the crowd. “Ken”, you call out with a laugh wondering where he was going. He looks back apologetically, “Sorry there’s something I want to do”, he tells you, pulling you down an another path that was much quieter. “What is it?”, you ask as he finally comes to a stop. Ken opens his mouth to speak, but before he can, someone else cuts in. “Well well if it isn’t the two love birds”, comes the unmistakable voice of Satoru Gojo. Nanami closes his eyes in annoyance as you look past him to see Gojo. “What are you doing out here?”, you question him, giving Nanami’s forearm a quick squeeze of reassurance. “Am I not allowed to enjoy the cherry blossoms like everyone else?”, he responds with a smirk. You give him a pointed look, you’d know him too long. “Ok fine, I need your help”, he tells you. “You couldn’t have called?”, Nanami asks annoyed. “I was in the area and saw you two, so I figured I’d just ask in person”, Gojo responds. Nanami sighs, knowing his opportunity to ask you had yet again slipped through his fingers.
When it finally happens:
It was a quiet evening at home when Nanami finally asked the question. After your last weekend has been disrupted, the two of you had decided to have a quiet weekend at home. You had spent the day watching movies, baking, and currently were enjoying some quiet reading time. “Y/N”, Nanami calls softly. You had been so engrossed in your book you hadn’t notice him slip out of the room and back. You tear your eyes away from the page looking at him, “What do you need?”, you ask, but your voice falters when you see him kneeling on one knee. “I have been trying to ask this question for weeks now, but things keep getting in the way”, he starts. You haphazardly close the book, giving him your full attention. “Y/N, you bring a light into my life that I never want to lose. You give me strength when I am weak. You keep me honest, you make this world more bearable to be in”, he continues, his eyes looking into yours. “You simply mean the world to me. So, would you do me the honor and marry me?”, Nanami asks, taking a second to open the box that held the exact image of a ring you had sent to Shoko months ago. You don’t even hesitate with your response, “Yes”, slips out of your mouth before you lean down to kiss him. “I love you so much”, Nanami says as he breaks the kiss, slipping the ring on your finger with ease, happy that the whole ordeal was finally over.

So happy you're doing the five times thing! It's one of my favorite fic formats, but I feel like I'm seeing less and less of them now.
And the new erwin one... god I love that man
Yes I wanted to do something a little different because as you said it’s not something you see that much anymore. And don’t worry there will be more Erwin fics! I tend to be more of a Levi girlie, but Erwin is a 10/10. Thanks for the support ❤️!
Almost Kissed (Erwin Smith x Reader)
Description: The four times Erwin almost kissed you and the one time he finally does
Warnings: Slight mentions of injuries/ death. Bit of angst, but mostly fluff. Gender neutral reader.
A/N: Heyyy, here is another five times series fic! I do apologize if this is a bit rough, I’ve been really busy this week. I hope you all have a good week and thank you for the support! (masterlist).
First Time
The first time Erwin Smith nearly kissed you was after witnessing you come back from the dead, quite literally in his mind. You had been put in the left flank which on this scouting trip had become practically decimated. Images of you riding off with your squad hours ago race through his mind as a scout member reports the carnage. An empty feeling sits inside of him as causalities are relayed to him and though he keeps his face neutral, he can’t help but think of your face, the way your hair glistened in the sunlight. But then, “Commander Erwin…it’s them!”, is shouted and his baby blue eyes snap into attention. Unfortunately them only referred to three roughed up scouts members, but luckily enough you had been one of them. The moment he locks eyes on your figure he nearly throws caution to the wind, moving toward you immediately. His hand reaches to cup your face, but a fraction of a second later he remembers the publicness of the moment and his hand falls onto your shoulder. “Glad to see you pulled through L/N”, is all he says to you, but you could read Erwin like a book, had been able to for a while now. So you knew what his true intentions were and at that moment it was probably the only thing keeping you from passing out.
Second Time:
A cool winters night is when Erwin almost kisses you again. You had been out with your squad grabbing a drink, a rare moment of peace. In the dead of winter scouting trips were rare, so there was more time for revelries. And so you allowed your squad to participate in them, even allowing yourself a beer or two. With the need for sleep more important you bid farewell to your squad and begin the trek back to base when you run into Erwin. “Well, well if it isn’t the mighty commander Erwin Smith”, you tease with a smile. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that maybe you’ve had too much to drink. “Y/N”, he muses with a light chuckle. “I feel like since you’ve become commander I never see you anymore”, you complain looping your arm through his. “Well I am the Commander of the Survey Corps”, he responds looking down at you briefly. You still your walking, the base ahead of you in view. “I miss you”, you say quietly. Before his promotion you considered him one of the closes people to you, but now the most you saw of him was at meals or briefly walking around the training grounds. You look up at him, a tinge of sadness in your eyes. Erwin couldn’t be sure what lead his actions that night, however he could not help but cup your cheek gently, smiling softly as you nestle it in his palm. “I miss you too”, he responds. His other hand moves to brush your hair back slightly before he sighs. “You’ve had too much to drink and I am your commanding officer this wouldn’t be appropriate”, Erwin says, more to himself than to you before he removes both hands. “I’ll see you tomorrow Y/N”, he tells you before leaving you now sober to ponder his words.
The Third Time:
The third time Erwin nearly kissed you was a late night in his office. He had been pouring over plans for an upcoming mission when you had come by holding a tray of food and tea in your hands. “You didn’t eat dinner so I wanted to make sure you had something”, you say carefully after he had given you permission to enter. He looks up and you see the gathering bags under his eyes, worrying you. “Thank you”, he says before his focus falls back to his planning. You watch him momentarily before moving closer. “Erwin”, you say quietly breaking formalities, “You need to eat”, you continue. You watch as he closes his eyes, “I need to finish these plans-”, he starts but you cut him off. “Can wait five minutes. You can’t forget to care about yourself”, you gently chide him, absentmindedly reaching out to brush his unusually unkempt hair back. Erwin looks at you for a moment before he makes his move. He stands abruptly, placing his hands around you on the desk, caging you. You didn’t care though, you had been hoping for this moment for months now, so you placed your hands on his shoulders, face leaning towards his when a sharp knock interrupts the moment. Erwin lets out a frustrated sigh before he moves back, allowing you to step away as disappointment floods your system. “Enter”, Erwin says calmly and as Levi comes into to discuss something you take your leave simply giving up on the kiss.
Fourth Time:
The fourth time it happens is a quiet morning on the wall. You didn’t expect to run into Erwin up here. You had come up here to find solace, to quiet your mind before the upcoming scouting mission. You stare out at the vast land, eyes focusing on the mist as it curls across the grass, stretching out to an unknown world. You take a deep breath, letting the cool morning air enter your lungs when a slight cough makes his presence know. “Erwin?”, you question as you turn to look at the tall man standing off to your left, though the hood of his uniform was up, his tall build and blue eyes were a dead giveaway. “What are you doing up here?”, you ask stepping closer. “Wanted to get some fresh air and to see…you”, he responds looking down at you. “Listen there’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now, but”, Erwin’s voice trails off. “Things keep getting in the way”, you offer as explanation, a tight smile gracing your features. He opens his mouth to speak, but you cut him off. “Erwin we are in the scouts, life is always going to be this. Maybe it’s a sign”, you tell him shaking your head slightly. Erwin doesn’t speak. He simply steps closer to you, handing moving under you chin to life your face up when all of the sudden. “Oh commander!”, Hange yells, completely oblivious to the scene that was folding out in front of them. Erwin sighs before turning around, “Hange, this isn’t exactly a good time”, he manages to say though it was clear from his tone he was frustrated. Hange looks at him confused but when they finally notice you, their cheeks blush. “Oh, umm, I’ll leave you two alone”, they say moving to turn away. “Hange it’s fine, I have things I need to do”, you tell them. You look at Erwin for a second and he sees the defeat in your eyes. “Sir”, you say before dismissing yourself. All Erwin can do is watch you walk away.
When it finally happens:
You roll your head, trying to relieve the tension in your neck. You had locked yourself away in your office since your previous encounter with Erwin, not wanting to see him. You had a fair reason to not leave your office though as you eye the mountain of paperwork you had finally been able to finish. You sigh as you stand up, moving to extinguish the oil lamp when your door swings open. “Hey what happened to kno-”, you start angrily, but the words die in your throat as Erwin comes into view. He says nothing, shutting the door behind before he strides over to you, grabbing your waist to pull you close. “I’m not letting life get in the way any longer” he mutters before he leans down to kiss you. You find yourself being backed against the wall as he softly knocks your head back to deepen the kiss. And you let him. You let him devour you in the kiss, you allow him to take the lead. You had been dreaming about this moment since the first day you had met him. His lips are surprisingly soft as they continue to overlay yours, and you let out a slight moan as he pulls you flush against him. “Erwin”, you huff as he breaks the kiss carefully. “I’m sorry it took me so long”, he murmurs before pulling you back into the kiss and for the rest of the night you think about nothing else, but him.
Seasons of Love (Sanemi Shinazugawa x FemReader) Part 3 Spring
Description: As you recover from your wounds an argument with the Wind Pillar ignites a fire in you that leads to a confrontation and a confession that completely changes the course of your relationship.
Warnings: Mentions of injuries, angst, cursing, and fluff.
“She’s going to be ok”, Shinobu Kocho says as she checks your IV drip, looking down at your improved pallor. Three hours ago when Sanemi had deposited you into her care, you were so pale, cold, and your breathing was ragged. All side effects from the blood demon art and your punctured lung. However, your condition was improving rapidly with the medicine she had administered. Shinobu peeks at your stab wound, happy the stitches were holding. She turns to look at the Wind Hashira, “I expect she’ll wake up within the hour”, she continues. “Good”, Sanemi responds gruffly, relief flowing through his body. Since bringing you in, he had stayed by your bedside, unmoving, watching you carefully, something the Insect Pillar was surprised with. Sanemi had never shown this type of behavior before. “You should go home and get some rest, I’ll keep an eye on her”, Shinobu tells him, watching him carefully.
Sanemi lingers by your bed for a minute longer, before sighing. As much as he wanted to stay by your side, he knew Shinobu was right. He was a mess, mentally and physically. A nice hot bath, a change of clothes, and a nap were over due for the Wind Hashira. He lifts his hand hesitantly before he brushes some hair off your forehead, happy to feel your warming skin, ignoring Shinobu’s raised eyebrows. Satisfied you were in safe hands he turns to leave, heading out the door before he turns back, looking at the Insect Pillar. “Kocho-”, he begins but she cuts him off. “Don’t worry Shinazugawa my lips are sealed”, she says, following him out the door. Sanemi blushes, but keeps his mouth shut. Though they weren’t friends, he trusted the Insect Pillar, he didn’t need anyone including you to know about his true feelings.
****
“Ok take a breath please”, Shinobu instructs, observing you carefully. You barely in get an intake of breath before your body is racked with coughs, lung burning in pain. Shinobu immediately places a small glass of water in your hand which you drink quickly, helping to end the coughing spell. “Damn it”, you groan frustrated. It’s been three weeks since your fight and though your other injuries have healed, your lung was a completely different case. “Stop being so hard on yourself”, the Insect Pillar chides, writing something down on a clipboard. “A punctured lung can take months to heal” she continues looking up at you. “Continued rest and rehabilitation training is what you should be focusing on. There’s no rush to get back out there”, she continues, placing the clipboard on the foot of your bed.
You sigh harshly which is quickly followed by hissing in pain, clutching your rib cage for a moment before speaking. “I know it’s just I feel like..I feel like a failure”, you tell her truthfully. And you did feel like one. You had barely even been a Hashira for six months before you found yourself being placed on the sidelines. Your injury made it near impossible to use your breathing style, let alone actually breathe, it was humiliating. “Stop beating yourself up, every Hashira has been in yours shoes. You should be grateful to be here alive, some Hashira never come back”, she reminds you solemnly and you immediately shut up, images of Rengoku flashing through your mind. “Now, as for today I want you to go out for a walk and stop by Kanroji’s for some flexibility training. She’s got some great stretches that will help ease your ribcage pain”, Shinobu says. You nod your head before moving to grab something warm for your walk. Though it was early spring, there was still a bite in the air, a residual from the bitter winter.
Your walk to the Love Hashira’s estate was pleasantly quiet for while. Though the cold air hurt your lungs, it was fresh and clean and smelled way better than the confines of your hospital bed. However the quiet ended the moment you noticed a streak of white hair up ahead on the path. Shinazugawa. You hadn’t seen the Wind Hashira in weeks, much to your dismay. Though you understood that he was busy, it still hurt that someone you had considered a friend had barely come to visit you as you recovered, especially because he had been there when it happened. “What the hell are you doing?”, he questions angrily as you come into focus. Though he was happy to see some color back in your face, Sanemi was angry that you were seemingly just strolling around as if you hadn’t been on deaths door barely three weeks ago.
You look at Sanemi confused for a moment. “What-”, you barely say before he speaks over you. “You should be fucking resting, not out waltzing around”, he says loudly. You scoff upset at the anger radiating off his body. “Not that it matters, but Kocho-San cleared me for rehabilitation training. So that’s what I’m on my way to do”, you say back looking at him with a mix of surprise and anger. Why does he suddenly care about my health now, you think. “Also why do you even care? It’s not like you were concerned about me during the past few weeks”, you continue seething. Sanemi’s eyes flash with pain momentarily, your words stung. Unbeknownst to you he had been concerned. He had checked on you every single night, coming to sit by your bed quietly as you slept, relaxing as he watched the steady rise and fall of your chest while you were sleeping.
The Wind Pillar opens his mouth to respond, but stops, noticing that you clearly didn’t know about his visits, the Insect Pillar had kept her word. So Sanemi settles for an eye roll before moving to walk past you. “Whatever”, he mutters, leaving you alone on the path angry. He wasn’t ready to face you yet and he knew if he engaged in the argument with you any longer, you would discover his true feelings for you. So it was easier in Shinazugawa’s mind to let you be mad at him for now.
****
You sigh as the breeze blows through your sweat soaked hair, watching as the cherry blossom leaves blow around in the wind. Though recovery had taken longer than you’d hoped, Shinobu had finally given you the all clear medically, allowing you to get back into training. “Here”, Tokito says handing you a ladle full of water from the well which you accept eagerly, gulping it down quickly. “Thanks”, you say handling the ladle back. “I have to say for someone who hasn’t been able to spar properly for almost two months, you did an excellent job”, the Mist Hashira tells you. You chuckle, though you are grateful to hear his words. Still a little rusty, you were happy your sword skills hadn’t faltered too much.
“I am a bit surprised you asked to spar with me and not Shinazugawa ”, he continues, noting how your breath hitched at the mention of Sanemi. Truthfully you would have preferred to spar with the Wind Pillar. However ever since your frosty meeting outside Mitsuri’s estate, he had been elusive, but you weren’t actively seeking him out either. “Eh it’s good to switch it up now and then”, you tell Muichiro before standing back up. He hums at your response, contemplating a moment before he speaks. “I know it’s not my place, but you two seem a bit off”. Your cheeks flush at his words, but you make no claim to confirm or deny the Mist Hashira words. He opens his mouth to speak more on the subject, but changes his mind momentarily, “Same time tomorrow?”, he asks. “Sounds good, see you then”, you respond, reaching down to grab your towel. Tokito begins to walk away before pausing briefly, “Just so you know he does care, he’s just bad at showing it”, he tells you. Your brows furrow in confusion, but Tokito is nearly gone by the time you look up, leaving your question hanging in your mouth. You sigh loudly wondering if maybe you needed to seek out the Wind Hashira yourself.
****
Hours later you find him. Well technically he found you, sitting on his doorstep. “The hell do you want”, he asks grumpily has he walks right past you to head into his place “To talk”, you say, moving to stand up quickly. Sanemi opens the door, “Got nothing to talk about”, he says before walking inside, door moving to close. You put your foot in the doorway. “Don’t shut me out”, you plead, eyes moving to look at his, pain etched on your features. Truthfully it had hurt to be ignored by him these past few weeks. Sanemi says nothing, just continues to walk into his estate, but the fact that he hadn’t actively shut you out had you hopeful, so you follow him in.
“Why didn’t you come see me while I was recovering? I thought we were…closer…than that”, you continue, words fumbling for a moment. Sanemi suddenly stops moving and you nearly run into him. “You should go”, he says and you can hear the anger in his tone. But you weren’t backing down, you knew his temper could be volatile, but you also knew he would never hurt you. “Please just answer the question. Why are you avoiding me, what happened between us?”, you plead again. “Y/N”, the Wind Pillar warns threateningly, but you continue to push, the sound of your name falling from his lips for the time in weeks egging you on. “Sanemi please-“, you start, but the Wind Hashira whips around, face inches from yours. “Get out!”, he yells, the sound ringing in your ears. But you weren’t having it. “No!”, you shout back nearly as loud. “I’m not fucking leaving until we talk about this like adults”, you continue, moving almost uncomfortably closer to him. Sanemi clenches his fist, eyes slamming shut, you knew he was trying to keep his anger in check.
You gambled your next move, you knew it could be potentially dangerous, but you desperately wanted to break his thick outer wall. So you carefully step even closer, his breath fanning your face. You gently place one hand on his scarred cheek, then other moving to cup his clenched fist. “Sanemi, it’s just me, talk to me”, you say calmly. Shock roots Sanemi in place, he never expected you to be this forward. He slowly opens his eyes and reads what looks like sorrow on your face. Your hands remain stilled on his body, but your finger tenderly brushing his cheek breaks him before he knows it. “I can’t lose you”, he finally says, voice broken. “What?”, you ask surprised, but he doesn’t answer. He gently takes grabs your wrist and moves your hand from his face, but keeps ahold of it.
“I visited you every night you were at Kocho’s place”, Sanemi starts, eyes staring down at the floor, but you don’t dare say anything. “After you passed out, you were so pale, your breathing was slowing, and you didn’t respond to me, even when I screamed your name”, he says. “I carried you as far as I could, but even when help came I couldn’t leave your side. You matter too much to me”, he continues, eyes looking at yours briefly. “Seeing you that hurt, it fucking scared me. I’ve already lost too much, I couldn’t bear losing you”, Sanemi says, voice hallow for a moment. “Sanemi”, you murmur. “So I stayed until Kocho kicked me out, but I came to see you every night”, he finishes. It’s quiet for a few seconds. “Why didn’t you just tell me this? Why did you avoid me?”, you asked him.
The Wind Pillar takes a deep breath, eyes closing again. “I thought that if I avoided you my feelings would change and that I wouldn’t be so worried about you anymore”, he says. “Have they?”, you boldly ask. “No”, he responds, eyes finally looking at yours. When you think back on this day you can’t quite explain your actions. Maybe it was the tone of his voice, maybe it was his confession, or maybe it was because you knew you could be honest with your own feelings finally. But the moment “No”, falls from his mouth you kissed him. It wasn’t a gentle kiss, it was far from it. You put your full force into the kiss, nearly knocking Sanemi back before his hand grips your waist, steadying himself. Your arms move to wrap around his neck, anchoring yourself to him. Raw emotion poured into the kiss, your tongues battling for dominance, moans spilling from your lips. It’s only when your lungs scream for oxygen do you pull away, panting like you’ve just run a marathon.
“Y/N”, Sanemi murmurs, unsure of what to do, unsure of what the kiss meant. “Don’t push me away. Because I feel it too”, you tell him honestly, hand moving to rest over his heart, the pounding reverberating off of your fingers. “I don’t know what any of this means”, you continue, “But I can’t lose you either”, you tell him truthfully. Sanemi pulls you back into the kiss, the confession emboldening him. Neither of you knew what the future would hold, but at this very moment it didn’t matter. You finally had each other and that counted for something.
A/N: Thanks so much for sticking around! I do apologize for the delay in posting, but I wanted to take my time with this chapter. I wanted the confession to be tense and with Sanemi he is the type of guy to not admit to things easily. Keep your eyes open for the last chapter things will get steamy 😉
Sleeping (Sanemi Shinazugawa x Reader)
Description: Just a fic about the five times you find yourself sleeping with the Wind Pillar
Warnings: Mentions of injury, cuddling, nightmares, but mostly fluff. Gender Neutral reader
A/N: Here is my first fic for my end of the year Five Times Series (here). Hope you enjoy! Will be doing an AoT fic next! ❤️
First Time:
The first time you had slept with the Wind Hashira was simply because the two of you had no choice. Bad weather had sent the two of you on a hunt for any place of shelter when you had finally spotted a cave. “Let’s go there”, you shouted to him over the howl of the wind. Shinazugawa was not pleased, but with the rain already soaking the both of you to the core he begrudgingly agreed. After about twenty minutes of waiting by the entrance you knew the rain wouldn’t be stopping anytime soon, so you looked for the most comfy spot among the rocks and debris that littered the cave floor before sitting down. “The hell are you doing?”, Shinazugawa barked as he turns toward you. “Sitting. We are going to be here for a while, might as well get some rest”, you tell him straightforwardly. He grumbles something that sounded like a curse word before moving to sit down as well. “Do you want me to take the first watch?”, you ask him after a couple minutes of silence. “No, you sleep first”, Shinazugawa says, eyes focused on the weather. You don’t respond, simply laying your head back against the cave wall. Hours later when you awaken you come to realized that your head had moved to rest on Sanemi’s shoulder. “Shit, Shinazugawa I’m sorry-“, you start immediately scooting over. “It’s fine”, he sighs, tone surprisingly calm. “The rain seems to be letting up so we should get moving soon”, he says standing. “Why didn’t you wake me?”, you question him. The Wind Hashira shrugged his shoulders, “Seemed like you needed it more than me”, he tells you before taking off, leaving you to do nothing but follow him.
Second Time:
“Oh my you two make a cute couple”, is what lead to you and Sanemi sleeping together again. You had never seen the Wind Hashira blush so much before, but given the situation of needing a room at this late hour, the two of you had no choice but to follow along. Sanemi coughs slightly as you carefully slip your arm through his. “Thank you”, you tell the inn keeper and follow her along the sparsely lit hallway. “Please make yourselves comfortable. I’ll be along later with some hot water”, she tells you before closing the door softly behind her. With the click of the door you immediately slip your arm from Sanemi’s as the two of you stare at the single futon with two pillows. “You had to go along with the old woman and say we were a couple”, Shinazugawa mutters turning to give you devil eyes. You scoff, “It’s the middle of the night and we turn up at her door, what did you want me to say? Oh hello ma’am we just slayed a demon”, you tell him mockingly. He just rolls his eyes, “I’m taking the futon”, he responds. “After the shit we just went through, you expect me to sleep on the bare floor?”, you ask voice raised. “You expect me share a bed with you?”, he asks, tone matching yours. You sigh, “Let’s just put the pillows in the middle”. It’s quiet for a moment, “Fine”, Shinazugawa mumbles before moving to the other side of the bed. After quickly wiping yourselves down with the hot water the innkeeper brought by, removing your haori, you finally slipped under the covers back facing Sanemi. Hoping the pillows would be enough of a barrier, the need for sleep pulled you under. But the next morning when a knock on the door awakens you, you find yourself locked securely in the arms on the Wind Hashira, you face lying against his well toned chest. As the knocking continues, Sanemi comes too, pulling you closer for a moment before a split second later pushing you away harshly when the reality of what he had just done hits him. Before you can even say anything Shinazugawa flees the room and the two of you barely speak for the remainder of the journey home.
Third Time:
An injury is what leads you to your third night with Shinazugawa. When a particularly tough fight has you gaining some badly broken ribs, you find yourself being uncomfortably poked and prodded by the village doctor. “You need at least twenty-four hours rest before you can even consider traveling”, the doctor says, eyeing you carefully. “Any sudden or harsh movements could worsen the injury”, he continues. You let out a pent up sigh. “You should head back Shinazugawa, I could be here for a bit”, you say, craning your neck to look at the white haired man who was staring at the doctor. “Is there someone who can stay with you? You cannot move on your own yet”, the doctor speaks again as he packs away the unused wrapping. “Me”, Sanemi says before you can open your mouth. “Good, I’ll be back in the morning to check on your condition, please try to stay still”, he tells you before heading out. “You’re an idiot”, Sanemi says once the door is shut. “You’re lucky it’s some broken ribs”, he continues before moving to sit next you. You open your mouth to retort, but he’s quick to cut you off “Don’t, you need to rest and arguing isn’t going to help your condition”, Sanemi says. He brushes some hair off your forehead, something you didn’t expect him to do. “I’m sorry I’m keeping you here”, you eventually say. You watch as Sanemi shrugs his shoulders. “It’s not like it’s our first time sharing a room together”, he says causing your cheeks to blush. “Sleep”, Shinazugawa continues and though you weren’t tired you find yourself listening to the Wind Hashira. Later, you couldn’t be quite sure, but you find yourself being lulled to sleep by the rhythmic brushing of fingers through your hair.
Fourth Time:
Nightmares is what sends you to the Wind Pillar’s bed for the fourth time. In your wildest dreams you never thought you’d find yourself here, staring at his door, the man who wielded anger like it was the only emotion he knew. But you knew deep down there was more, that though Sanemi hid it well, he cared deeply. So when your fist makes contact with the door you are unsurprised how quickly it opens. Sanemi stands before you, eyes tired, grumpy from the late hour summons, but filled with concern. “Come in”, he tells you, the dark circles under your eyes a dead give away of your reasoning for being at his door. You follow him quietly as he leads the way to his room. After countless missions and long nights spent together, there was no longer a need for formalities. Though it was unspoken, both of you felt more at ease with the other. So you don’t question it as Sanemi sheds his shirt before laying down on his futon, you simply join him. “Do you want to talk about it?”, he asks after lying in silence for a few moments. You turn your body to face him, “Do you?”, you question back. “Fair point”, he responds, before turning on his back. Another few minutes pass in silence before, “I just don’t know how to get their screams out of my head sometimes”, you tell Sanemi who turns his head to look at you. “Somedays you just accept it, you can’t escape the past, but you can learn from it”, he tells you. You scoff slightly, “What?”, he asks a bit angrily. “Nothing, just didn’t think you’d give good advice”, you tell him plainly. “Whatever, I’m going to sleep, you should too”, Sanemi says before closing his eyes. “But what if I can’t?”, you whisper a bit later and even Sanemi hears the fear in your voice. So he turns on his side before grabbing you, pulling you closer. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you, so just sleep”, he says, his lips brushing against your forehead as you nestle yourself against his chest. And for the first time in weeks you managed to get a full night of sleep.
Fifth Time:
“Why don’t you just stay here permanently”, Sanemi suddenly asks aloud as the two of you settle comfortably underneath the blankets. You look at him shocked. “What? We both know that you get better sleep when you stay over”, he continues. “Well it’s just that…we haven’t exactly talked about this..about us”, you stammer out. “What is there to talk about?”, Sanemi questions. “I thought the other day when Obanai walked in on us kissing it was made clear where we stand”, he says. You close your eyes as the shocked and almost horrified expression Obanai had on his face pops into your brain. “I just want to make sure we are in the same page”, you finally say, shaking your head. “Do you not want to stay here?”, Sanemi questions, worry evident in his tone. “No, no, I do but-“, you begin. “But what? I help you move your stuff tomorrow”, Sanemi interrupts you. You sigh in defeat, “Alright”, you tell him. “Then it’s settled”, he says with a soft smirk before leaning down to kiss you. Maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad thing, you think as you find yourself being pulled into the familiar spot against Sanemi’s chest, knowing sleep would come quickly.
