"can you hold this for a moment?" proceeds to hand him the stray kitten he'd just found.

"Hold what- Hey- Nero-"

Vergil let out a sigh. He didn't know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't this. He held up the kitten to inspect it. It stared back, eyes and ears twitching. It then let out the softest mewl he had ever heard.

The hybrid proceeded to cradle it close and began scratching its head.

"Is there anything you can tell me about my mother? I don't even know her name or what she looked like. You're the only person I can ask."

Vergil should have known that the day would come when he would be asked about Nero's mother. He had spent many, many years trying to push back painful memories in an attempt to focus on his goals, but there were still moments when he would find himself remembering and wondering...

Is she even still alive?

The swordsman pursed his lips, hesitant to meet his son's eyes. "Your mother... She was the kindest person I ever met. It happened so long ago, but...I remember that she was very loving and always sought out the good in people." A sigh escaped him. "You remind me of her in a way - she also had fiery personality."

Vergil paused for a moment, letting the question sink in as he realized his son was being serious. There was already a decent amount of snow outside and it was still coming down in gentle flurries. A small sigh escaped him.

"You know...I haven't built a snowman since I was a kid, so I might be a bit rusty." He offered a smile before turning to grab a couple of scarves. "Let's go before Dante catches wind of what we're planning."

Vergil found that the most peaceful time to meditate was late at night when everyone was asleep, hardly making any noise as he slipped out of the shop. While he did tell himself that it was an excuse to meditate, he quite enjoyed sitting outside and simply enjoying the sound of the city, or lack thereof.

However, he quickly realized that he wasn't alone. He turned his head only slightly, aware of the other's presence.

"Is that you, Nero?"
