A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following what police describe as a "brutal" knife attack in Belfast, during which bystanders had to struggle to wrest it from the victim.
A man in his thirties, whom police believe to be of Somali origin, remains in custody following the incident in north Belfast at around 10:30 p.m. (BST) on Monday.
A video circulating online shows several people, including one armed with a hurling stick, confronting the alleged assailant until the police arrived.
The injured man, in his forties, is hospitalized and his condition is described as serious. He suffered significant injuries to his face, neck, and back.
Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson said that "a critical incident" had been declared and that police had "launched an investigation to establish a motive."
Mr. Henderson indicated that police were on the scene within minutes and praised members of the public "who tried to save the man from another attack."
He said they had shown "courage and community spirit." He asked people not to share images of the attack.
Why ?
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the incident as "outrageous," adding that he would have "absolutely no tolerance for such scenes of heinous violence in our streets."
Northern Ireland's Justice Minister, Naomi Long, praised the "brave people who disarmed the attacker."
“I ask people not to share the very graphic images and videos of the attack,” she said. “They are deeply shocking and traumatic to watch,” she added.
Why ?
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) received an emergency call at 10:39 p.m. (BST), after which an ambulance and a specialist paramedic were dispatched to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, the victim was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
The Deputy First Minister described it as a "shocking and brutal act of violence," adding that her thoughts were with the victim of this "savage and barbaric attack. This hateful act has no place in our society, and certainly not on the streets of Northern Ireland," said Emma Little-Pengelly.
It seems this act of hatred was roaming freely in the streets of Belfast, far from his native Somalia.

The Iranians clearly lack surface-to-air missile capabilities for slow-moving MANPADS, or at least if they do have them, they are poorly distributed, but this won't last. The Iranian general staff will study in detail the tactics used by US special forces in this operation, identify its errors or shortcomings, and adopt countermeasures. Once again, democracy is at the heart of the problem. It is a way of thinking and organizing a people that invariably leads to racial death. It is what can be called a form of organized anarchism where the individual is placed at the center of the organization of the State.
Selfishness, pleasure, and short-termism are the DNA of this type of state.
This is what we see with this survey: even though 50% of people see and understand that they are physically disappearing—not only themselves, but also their children and grandchildren—they have no intention of doing anything serious to prevent it. What seems important to them lies elsewhere: their petty bourgeois comfort.
You'd have to be an idiot to believe that such a mass of people could want anything. It operates on the basis of comfort: no matter the dilemma, it will always choose the option that preserves its personal comfort as much as possible. Everything is arranged around that.
The boomers are the first generation to embody this, to the very end. The generations that follow are noticing this, since they are economically devoured by these old leeches, but they are not qualitatively different: they want to do exactly the same thing as the boomers, but reality prevents them from doing so.
Under these conditions, elections are the ultimate opiate of the white petty bourgeoisie. It is a symbolic revolution by proxy that in no way commits the French petty bourgeois. He delegates his destiny to cowards and opportunists, as cowardly and opportunistic as himself.
In a country undergoing racial Africanization, this little game can only lead to disaster. You can't drive away the vast hordes of people from Africa with a National Rally ballot.

Prisons are no longer absorbing foreign criminals. The masses, despite their complaints about the situation, remain obsessed with maintaining organized anarchism (“the rule of law”). Everything worsens, year after year, and those responsible ask themselves, as much out of stupidity as hypocrisy: “What’s going on ?!”
Money becomes the only way to avoid, at least partially, the dangers of the racial jungle. As in a mob mentality, the threat does not discourage the individualistic impulses of petty-bourgeois society, but on the contrary reinforces the generalized every-man-for-himself mentality.
Fear and cowardice, the mothers of passivity, are the two sentiments that govern the native masses in France. Nothing is done without some preliminary, petty calculation. Such a society can produce nothing, much less save itself from itself.
The electoral rhetoric aims to appease the French petty bourgeoisie, to dangle before them the hope that they can recover without suffering. That's what they want to hear.
The two blocs that emerge within the Whites of France are defined as follows: there are those who indulge in the cultural Buddhism of indifference and peacefully mock their future, and the followers of Christian fatalism who live in the resigned anguish of death.
Both are equally useless.
