she’s not sure why she hadn’t expected to see any other kids around. the facility was big, where doctors were employed other than dr. owens, but even so, when she first saw bill, she was startled. joyce had been taking will to see dr. owens for a very specific reason. she didn’t want anyone outside of herself or the doctor or hopper to know what, exactly, was going on with her son. that didn’t make her any less curious as to why bill was there, however. she didn’t necessarily think she was the nosy type, but standing outside the door to will’s room, watching the boy walk down the hall, she gave him a grin, encouraging him to stop as joyce wrapped her arms around herself. ‘ hi, sweetheart, ’ she greets, the motherly tone a practiced one. ‘ my son and i have seen you here a few times. are your parents around? ’ @denbroh.

in all actuality, jane knew they hadn’t seen her. and even if they had, they couldn’t KNOW who she was at least not enough to call her out so easily. but still, it was shocking, especially since they seemed so at EASE having fun. playing PRETEND, in a larger group than the one she had left in hawkins. the boy approaches, leaving her slightly startled that anyone had cared to follow her at all. in an effort to look halfway normal, she widens her eyes, “ me ? ” she makes a show of looking at herself, noticing a bit of dirt where she had slid, making the initial disturbance in the safari. “ yes. i tripped. ”
