❤📺From an early age, I had been raised on comedy by my parents, Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em, Steptoe and Son, dinnerladies being the main ones, I liked them but there wasn't a comedy I could say I truly loved. This changed when I was 8 years old, we had just moved house and thanks to the new world of Sky Digital, I was introduced to The Royle Family by my Dad, I remember the first episode we watched, the one where they all start singing the Emmerdale theme song and I was in stitches, 12 years later and The Royle Family is still one of my all time favourite shows, a comedy I can say I truly love, so when my Dad picked me up from work today and told me "Denise Royle has died", I felt an overwhelming sense of emotion I have never felt before when I have heard about the death of someone famous, someone I never knew personally, but felt like I did, I have felt sad about famous people dying in the past, but not quite like I did today. I grew up with this show and Denise in my sitting room, in times of happiness but also in times of sadness, it has never failed to cheer me up, it's one of the few shows my Dad and I truly bond over and I am so grateful for that, there is literally no comedy like it and it will probably always be that way. Caroline Aherne changed the way comedy is made by standing her ground. She was a force in a male-dominated part of the entertainment industry. She made us laugh. She made us cry. She was the driver behind The Royle Family, not only acting as one of the most strangely endearing and funniest characters ever, but also co-created, wrote and directed it. Thank you so much for making my day a little brighter whenever I turned on the channel to the sounds of Half the World Away, for creating one of if not my all time favourite TV show/comedy, for giving me and my Dad something to laugh at, thank you for everything Caroline, may you be lounging out on the sofa upstairs with the pack of cigs watching your favourite episode of The Royle Family tonight. I'm so grateful to have grown up watching you and I know if I ever have children, this show is what I'll raise them on. #carolineaherne #deniseroyle #theroylefamily 📺❤
