Ok ok Voyage of the Damned session 3 highlights/typed summary!
This was a LONG session (3.5 hrs) and generated 11 pages of handwritten notes, so. There's a fair amount of Stuff here. So we'll actually get into it under the cut lol
Generally, all of our crew wanted to Go Back To Work after a mandated 'break' by the captain. Since our party is new (in training and therefore nonessential) and went through the whole discovery of Mae's body, everyone was put on break. @birbinab0x noted that Eugene worked anyways during the break. Everybody else actually listened, though Mouse's coping mechanism is throwing herself at work and being busy, so this was a VERY hard break for her
Dr. Mighiana pawns off some general health surveys on Mouse and Vale (@exiity3), because he doesn't like doing them and there weren't any patients to currently attend to. Vale only sticks with Mouse for the first person they give the survey too (Mechanic, Glorp, we love it very much it's silly <3) before skittering off to go find and administer surveys in the kitchen. Vale adores the chef, Rosa.
Eugene helped Ellie, the electrician, with a project she was working on.
Taen (@jatmin-the-fan) goes to CC, the explosives expert, to get some training for their job. A lot of the on-ship work is mostly just launching torpedoes at any asteroids they're at risk of running into, but it's similar to what they'll be doing when they reach their destination and it's worth knowing.
Eugene and Ellie finish their project and run into Mouse, who gives both of them their surveys. Mouse and Ellie have a bit of a bonding moment about having mechanical parts that need maintenance/replacement, since Ellie has mechanical legs and Mouse is an 8yo android.
Vale overheard Rosa comforting Seong-ho, the on-ship HR representative, about something. She said "he," assumed to be referring to her husband (Dr. Zain Mighiana), has been acting off lately, and she doesn't know if it was because of something she did or because of "what's been going on lately. It's so similar to..." and didn't complete her thought. Vale hands out the surveys and leaves.
Taen has learned what they can from CC and talks briefly with Dally, the gunner, about the ship's defense system. We also learn that Dally's grandpa served in WWIII, which apparently had to do with the space station cult Eden, which Taen is from. Dally also served in the army, though never had to deal with anything that big. CC apparently wanted to enlist, but was disallowed from doing so for a reason that's not elaborated upon. My theory is something with androids taking that job? Since CC wanted to work with explosives, and in theory it's safer to have nonhumans taking that position.
Mouse and Vale regroup and also pick up Eugene cause he's bored. They go to the chapel to get Arioso (chaplain, nonhuman, instrumentali/ptolomain alien) his survey. Mouse is NOTICABLY uncomfortable in the chapel and around Arioso, though she's been fine with every other alien she's encountered. Arioso notices that she's off and asks if she's alright, but she dodges the ask and LEAVES. Arioso assures her his door is always open, and asks the group to let Taen know that he would like to speak with them.
Survey group goes to the cockpit, where Dally and CC are trying to pressure Nico (the navigator) to let them fire the ship's defenses as a demonstration for Taen. Nico doesn't let them. Dally calls Mouse a tin can and leaves, and Mouse accidentally makes CC mad by calling them their legal name.
Taen goes to the chapel to speak to Arioso. Turns out that Arioso knows their mother, Lowell, who had gone missing when Taen was 3. Taen has a large scar across their face, and apparently she was chasing whoever had given it to them. The ship she was on had apparently crashed on Arioso's home planet, hum, and she served as sort of a human culture ambassador there. Arioso assures Taen that she'd be proud of them, and promises to see about trying to get a call set up for them. Taen almost cries. They wanted to be just like their mom. [cue mama's boy playing]
Survey crew go to the captain's quarters and bother Stern and Zenaida, the captain and co-captain. Mouse notices that Stern looks tired and asks about the ongoing investigation into Mae's death. Stern tells her not to worry. Mouse informs him the proper amount of sleep he should be getting, hands him his survey to fill out, and asks if Zenaida is in there. @jatmin-the-fan actually has an adorable little comic of this interaction. Zenaida also gets her survey filled out. Stern asks if they really need 3 people to do this, and Mouse explains she has the papers, Vale has the pens, and Eugene is just bored. Zenaida chimes in that the toaster needs fixing, which results in Eugene asking if they have a replacement, and Vale giving him trash about "Where are we gonna get a new one we're in SPACE." Also us as players giving Bird trash for how they say "industrial." Eugene and Mouse loose Vale, as he wants to speak to them both about something. They borrow his gel pens (sparkly purple, cerulean blue with silver glitter, and grey), and continue off to find Dally and Marco (vehicle driver on-planet, works as a janitor in the meantime).
Vale shares Mae's last words with Stern and Zenaida. She said "She couldn't meet him. [there was something here I didn't catch]. I want my mom." She didn't elaborate on who "he" was. Vale also accidentally shares that he and Mouse had to find a code to get into the room they found her in, and Zenaida gives him TRASH for technically breaking into there, since it wasn't on the tour. Vale agrees it was wrong and promises not to do it again and explains he hasn't done it since. Stern calmly reiterates that it's a hazard to go into locked areas and the locks are mostly there for crew safety, but thanks Vale for the information.
In the stairwell to the more 'living area' section of the ship, Mouse and Eugene run into Taen. Mouse notices they look like they'd been crying, and stops dead in her tracks. Eugene walks RIGHT into her and almost gets knocked down the stairs as a result of basically running into a 5'0 metal sculpture. Mouse helps him rebalance himself and then demands to know if Taen is okay. Taen assures her they're fine, and then Mouse recruits them to their crew by letting them carry Vale's pens. They then go into the gym, hunting for Dally.
Dally is incredibly bothered, because he doesn't like androids OR aliens. Mouse is very matter of fact that they don't have to talk, she just needs to give him this form! Taen tries to toss him a pen, he misses, and Mouse manages to catch it for him. Eugene comments that it's a skill issue, and Dally threatens to start throwing dumbbells if they don't leave, saying he'll fill out his form on his own time and not whenever a 'rag tag bunch' like them want him to. Eugene is ready to instigate a little more, but Mouse is just like "ok can i have the pen back tho. I borrowed it." He throws it at her. THEN, on the way out, he calls after them, "I hope you're glad that girl's dead because of you."
Taen and Eugene whip back around and Mouse freezes on the spot. Dally calls them a rag tag bunch again and Eugene protests, insisting they were all hired on just like everybody else on this ship. Eugene is more than willing to get up close with Dally. Dally at this point is basically accusing Vale of killing her, and Mouse chimes in that Vale had been with her all of that morning, and she basically had it on tape. It couldn't have been Vale. Not only did he just have an alibi, but he would just never do something like that. Dally slowly grins and goes, "oh. You're one of those savages*, aren't you?" Eugene socks him in the jaw. (*term for a rogue android)
After a couple of failed hits on Dally's part, Zenaida barges in and drags him off, insisting she'll deal with Eugene later. Dally shouts "And f you!" as he's basically marched out. They pass Vale in the hall, and Dally goes, "What, not gonna join your other freak friends?" Zenaida slaps him on the arm bc that's not appropriate, and Vale basically goes "tf did i do????"
Marco is in the hall, having gone to get Zenaida. Apparently he'd debated letting it play out, but they decided it'd be funnier to see Dally get scolded. Despite going through That, Mouse shoves all her emotions to the side and locks back onto her mission and gets Marco his survey.
Smoke break 3 after dinner--Taen and Eugene are the only ones that smoke, but Mouse and Vale do hang out with them for the moment. They fill Vale in on what was up with Dally. Mouse mentions she caught Eugene punching him on her video memory, and Marco mentions that several people on the crew would pay good money to see that. Mouse is unused to the concept of having her own money. Eventually, everybody trickles off.
Eugene looks at a holographic picture of his daughter and her mother before bed. His daughter is in a hospital gown and has a canula in her nose, but otherwise looks healthy. They're both smiling.
Vale scampers off to the gym, since he doesn't feel tired.
Taen simply heads off to bed.
Mouse goes to find to Ellie. Once she can get it alone, she explains that she has some files that she cannot delete on her own--she's tried. And she wants them gone. Ellie (enthusiastically) agrees to help. Mouse powers down and Ellie begins to poke around to see what she can do.
AND SCENE!
As always, shoutout @deedeedaisy for running this thing! I have a great time every session. I know you were talking about how you'd not planned at all for this session, but honestly if you hadn't mentioned that I wouldn't have been able to tell. It was amazing, and I'm glad I have such a big notebook for it lol
