J-ROCK HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN : DAY 2 !! ☆ 「 prima dynamis by Denkare 」
Denkishiki Karen Ongakushûdan - C.M.S.
turns out I should rely less on wikipedia for determining the genre of a band and also rethink how I classify music genres. I always say, I don’t care, what genre a song is from, but in the end I kinda do (??)
So, this band is listed as heavy metal band. Given the first song I heard from them was their song Hijiri....
...I was a little baffled. Listening to more of their songs, I got to see, where the metal came from, but my image of heavy metal, so far, was made up of male singers with (most of the time) a high singing voice, so here we have a stupid question: how do female heavy metal singers sound?
the japanese singer in this case still sounds like your regular anisong singer to me. furthermore I don’t really want to divide genres into male or female, because that’s imo really fucking stupid. I only did this with rap music so far.
anything else ?

妖精帝國 a.k.a. YOUSEI TEIKOKU
Originally a two-member Japanese musical unit (Yui and Takaha) formed in 1997 and part of Team Fairithm. Currently Yousei Teikoku have 5 members:
Vocal: Yui Guitar: Takaha Lead Guitar: Shiren Bass: Nanami Drums: Gight
Their music contained elements of electro, EBM, darkwave, neoclassical, ethereal, j-pop and ambient, with a Gothic style in it’s core but later on moved to a more Heavy/Goth/Symphonic Metal sound.
From the band’s official facebook page: Beginning in 1997, Her Highness Yui descended on the human realm from The Empire of the Fairies and began making music with the intention of “regaining the forgotten hearts of those who believe in fairies”. Debuting with Japanese anime music label Lantis, the group has since created many songs for anime and video games. With a concept combining Gothic Lolita visuals, and a mix of genres such as classical and J-pop based in heavy metal, Yousei Teikoku stands out prominently in the anime music scene.
Representative songs include “Baptize”, opening theme to the TV anime “Seikon no Qwaser” and “空想メソロギヰ” (Kuusou Mesorogiwi/ Fantastic Mythology), opening theme to the TV anime “Mirai Nikki”, among countless others.
