Hit up a record store I rarely go to today; this was playing while I was there, and pretty soon I knew I had to get it. This is hipsters playing old-school Dennis Coffey-style funk/RnB with a dash of Breakestra and spaghetti western soundtrack thrown in for good measure. Coolest surprise: side two ends with a loop of guttural sax in the playout groove, so it catches on the warbling low notes and repeats until you turn off your turntable.

My brother had Dennis Coffey’s Scorpio on a single and I became obsessed (I am a Scorpio, after all!) so when I started buying records of my own, I was keeping an eye out for that song. When I spotted this album in 1980 or 81, I flipped it over, saw Scorpio was on it and bought it without hesitating. Turned out the whole album was fab and I’ve been a Coffey fan ever since.
