Nature Versus The City

As a side project to my FMP i decided to create a book called 'Nature Versus The City'. The reason behind doing the book is linked with my FMP as 'The Common Company' takes inspiration from both nature and the city lifestyles, so i took this theme and made a comparison book where i look at the visual similarities. I had a lot of fun taking the images and seeing things in the forest which i could then go to the city and find in another form, such as the drain cover and tree stump for example. My main inspiration for the book layout and photo editing was 'Cereal' magazine as i love their use of white borders, mixed with full bleed images and simple text layout and design. The front cover with the black and white images laying over each other was inspired by a exhibition i came across in the Whitechapel gallery in London. The type is inspired by vintage style logos, with the texture over the top giving it that rough and hand-done feel.

I have now sent the book away to get printed by the company 'Blurb', i went for a soft cover as still being inspired by 'Cereal' magazine i went for a more magazine-like feel, i also felt a hard cover would look silly with the amount of pages i have.

INSTAGRAM

Recently i have really got into my photography, more specifically taking photos on my phone (samsung galaxy s3). Instagram is a great app which has many different kinds of people on it, some use it like an extension of Facebook so they will take photos of themselves and what they've been up to, and then there is the other side of the app where people see it as a more artistic photography app, and use it to showcase their photos. This is the side that i have been getting into, since getting my phone with its amazing camera which also does macro shots i have been enjoying looking for interesting shots everywhere i go now. I feel this has then, like my videoing made me much more inspired by whats around me and has made me appreciate everything more. This is a selection of some of my favourite photos i have taken recently, i haven't got much of a 'theme' but where i live I'm surrounded by nature and the countryside so this is mainly what i focus on.

For the last year or so I've been driving past a sign saying "sculpt gallery" and I've always wanted to go down there and see the art thats on display, so last week me and Lloren took the trip to see it. Run my artist Maurice Blik and his wife at their home, its a small gallery but the work on display was of a very high standard, showcasing different artists who made different types of sculptures, with a price range going from £30 to £40,000 and above. It was only a quick trip, we got talking to Maurice's wife about the gallery, had a look around and left with a few business cards and leaflets about their events.
