Boom! 💣 There it is folks. @bigink Director Lyell Castonguay pulled a few of his newest 40” x 96” woodblock titled “In Pursuit” today. Things are feeling pretty good with plenty of time to dry, curate, and professionally photo these puppies before one is sent out to Art Gym Denver for Mo’Print: Month of Printmaking Colorado exhibit. Big thanks to Greg Santos for the invite to participate. More process vid and pics to soon follow. 📽

@bigink director Lyell Castonguay pulled the first proof of a 40” x 96” woodblock which is now officially titled “In Pursuit”. Castonguay went back in and carved a series of parallel lines at the base of the image to give the illusion of a riverbed. This not only lends the image a little more visual weight but also gives it a greater depth of field. Look for a post featuring a big reveal vid soon! Castonguay is looking forward to wrapping this big guy up and sending it out to Art Gym Denver for a large woodcut show curated by Gregory Santos. This piece will also be featured in BIG INK’s demonstration at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston this April. After this project is completed it is onward to more big things! 🎯💥🔥

This 40” x 96” print is current in transit to Art Gym Denver for their exhibit “Giant Woodcuts” curated by Greg Santos. The show is going to be up 3/1 - 3/17 coinciding with Mo’Print. If you are around go check it out!

“In Pursuit” captures the life and death struggle of an Great White Egret attempting to snatch a crayfish from the river depths. The scene is intended to be chaotic so Castonguay developed a composition that plunges downward leading the viewers eye to the crayfish – a casualty in this nature inspired melodrama. Castonguay has a strong affinity for all things wild, especially birds, which he depicts frequently in various confrontational situations. “Follow” us on Tumblr for more print related news & updates!
