Kaun Yin / Guanyin, goddess of compassion and mercy. She is said to be one of the most believe figures in many religions. She is often associated with the lotus flower. She is carved as a relief in this Lapis Lazuli. There is also a small drill hole at the top where it can be turned into a pendant. Lapis Lazuli is a “stone of total awareness”. Times ticking! ⏰ There’s only a few weeks left to apply for BIG INK’s upcoming large scale relief printing event at 3 Fish Studios in San Francisco, California! Get those proposals to us by midnight on Feb 16th. Apply for free www.bigink.org/apply.

If selected you’ll join a group of sixteen other talented artists at 3 Fish Studios for a fun filled weekend of printing on April 28th & 29th. All materials, technical advice, and equipment usage will be provided onsite. Simply bring a fully carved block for printing.

If you’ve never visited 3 Fish Studios it is a fantastic haven created by painter/printmakers Eric Rewitzer and Annie Galvin. The Outer Sunset hub is home to their workshop and studio, where art happens daily and visitors are always welcome; they love collaborating, making, and sharing creative projects with cool folks.

From 3 Fish’s original space in the Dogpatch to its now permanent place in the Ocean Beach Republic, the pair have created a dedicated space where they can make and show their work together, and invite people—neighbors and newbies alike—to do the same.

@bigink director Lyell Castonguay pulled the first proof of a 40” x 96” woodblock which is now officially titled “In Pursuit”. Castonguay went back in and carved a series of parallel lines at the base of the image to give the illusion of a riverbed. This not only lends the image a little more visual weight but also gives it a greater depth of field. Look for a post featuring a big reveal vid soon! Castonguay is looking forward to wrapping this big guy up and sending it out to Art Gym Denver for a large woodcut show curated by Gregory Santos. This piece will also be featured in BIG INK’s demonstration at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston this April. After this project is completed it is onward to more big things! 🎯💥🔥
