Happy National Postal Worker Day!
Postal workers not only bring mail, but also sometimes deep friendships.
Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) befriended postman Joseph Roulin and his family between 1888 and 1889 when he stayed in Arles in the south of France. They formed a tender friendship while Van Gogh was struggling with his mental health in the last few years of his life.
“Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits” is on view at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston through September 7th. You will get to see 23 portraits of the Roulin family by Van Gogh and some of the loving letters written by Mr. Roulin.
