Guide to men's socks
There were days when people had dressers filled with white tube socks or the heaps of plain black dress socks. Those days are now pretty much over, whether its bold colours or striking patterns the options for men have had a big shift.
Nowadays, neckties are no longer the epitome of sartorial splendour. Today men start from their feet and work their up.
Types of men's socks -
· No show socks –
Sporting the sockless look does not really mean literally going sockless. Here's a smartly designed pair of no-show socks will help you keep your feet comfortable, stylish and dry. Moreover, it also stays put with slipping off the back of your heel. Some people might think that these socks are only to be worn with shorts or clothes like that, but this can easily get restrictive too fast. Despite being super stylish, wearing the no-shows with the wrong shoes can be quite uncomfortable for your feet, so much so that you might end up with blisters.
You can actually pair your no-show socks with any outfit from jeans with slip-ons to dress pants with oxfords, simply don't pair it with boots, high-tops or sandals. Also, do use the best men’s body spray to make an impactful presentation.
· Ankle (athletic) socks -
People often confuse ankle socks with no-show socks, but they are quite different in many ways. While no-shows sit below the ankle and are meant to be hidden, the ankle socks sit a little above the ankle and protect your heels from rubbing against the shoes. Basically, ankle socks are not fashion accessories and are to be used in the gym and other physically straining activities like running, and sports etc. The same goes for the white athletic socks of any length, one would even recommend you opt for black as they stay and look cleaner for much longer.
· Mid-calf socks -
Perfect for just about any shoes like the sneakers, loafers, dress shoes, boots and stuff like that, the mid-calf socks are what occupy the modern man's sock supply. Plus, they are also easy to get in any colour, pattern, material or thickness. Simply the best! Furthermore, add some of the men’s best perfumes and enjoy a complete package of sorts!
· Over the calf (OTC) socks -
A step away from wearing the sock garters, over the calf socks which were once the most reliable socks, are now pretty much out of style. As the sock game gained speed, the OTC socks soon fell out of favour and never seemed to get the same fame again. However, if you are determined to keep your socks stay up, then OCT is the way to go for you. Some sellers still provide these at select shops and charge super high prices with a barely-there selection. While some may like these socks the best but as long as you don't wear these on shorts or the likes, you are good to go with the OTC socks as who is really going to know how tall your socks are?
Ways to wear your socks -
· When in doubt, go dark! –
Play it safe and go for the classics like black, brown or navy socks when going for a traditional industry meeting or the likes. This will give you an assurance of not going wrong with its traditional look. As much as you might like colourful socks, it's better to not stand out and be in the limelight at times. You could try to use one of the best men’s body spray to make a striking entry to any event.
· Try adding texture or ribbing -
While you may think that wearing the basic solid socks leaves you with no options. The reality is a bit different. You can actually choose and experiment with textures, ones which are pretty much available in almost every neutral colour possible. This also adds the much needed visual interest to your outfit subtly.
· Wear no-shows with caution –
Take care of not showing your ankles in any formal setup as many conservatives consider the no-shows paltry especially with formal attires like suits. Although you can try doing so if yours is a much-relaxed workplace. Also, complete your look by using some of the men’s best perfumes.
· Try bold solids -
Want to add more edge to your look, go for the solid or colour blocked socks. Try this to experiment with thoughtful accessorizing.
· Stripes, dots and argyle -
Another safe bet after solids are stripes, polka dots or argyles. A timeless pack these make for easy matching with any of your outfits.
