It fascinates me how many artists dread choosing cover songs to perform at their shows. I actually suffer from the exact opposite affliction... I hate narrowing down the covers! Many of the songs I want to cover either by rerecording them or performing them live with my own twist tend to be older, more obscure selections. It's not that I don't think my own repertoire is strong enough, it's simply that I love these potential cover songs so much, and I know I can spruce them up in my own way! Not to mention that as a fan, if I heard the songs performed at a live show I would lose my mind with happiness! Then you think back to all the covers Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige made popular again in the beginning of their careers, and it's encouraging! Thankfully, I plan on having a very long, fruitful career, so I'll just assume I have years and years worth of covers to share with you all :)
