Se acerca la temporada de matojo...
Let women have facial hair. They already do. The amount of pain even cis people feel about not fitting perfectly into some deeply artificial gender prescription is one more argument for trans and intersex inclusivity, for celebrating ftm folks who donât do electrolysis, for expanding your notion of femme presentation to include unshaven hair - especially dark hair - wherever it appears.
This thread is full of folks laughing fatalistically or borderline supportively about how mean people at threading/waxing locations are and how going to get depilated in one area resulted in new insecurities elsewhere. Thankfully there are also some golden folks who were just like âdonât, asshole.â
Like as someone who shaves or waxes - always at home, f the beauty industry- for sensory reasons I really encourage any femme who doesnât want to shave or wax to justâŠ.not (when you can do so physically safely - I know this isnât uncomplicated). I love your hairy temples. I love your mustache. I love your beard and cheek fuzz and back hair and hairy bellies and nipples and thighs. I love you and Iâm sorry for your pain. Your leg hair is great. Your neck hair is great. Your hairy arms are soft and lovely. Whether youâre cis or trans or intersex or unsure of yourself, I just want to know my definition of femininity does not exclude hair.
Okay, so I was just thinking about all the topics Skam + remakes have covered and for a moment I thought they had never talked about depilation, but then I remembered this scene existed:
So thanks Skam NL
(Because if I remember correctly it's the only one, isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong)
My depilation is self-harm
My depilation is self-harm. Society wounded me and forced me into it. I canât begin to explain how much harm the dogma of smooth, white, depilated women has done to my self-confidence and to my sex life. Not to count the infected ingrown hairs on various parts of my body, the burns and the money spent in all these years.
My beautician used to say things like âletâs clean up this skinâ and âlook how much better your legs look nowâ. I donât use her services any more. Iâd rather self-harm.
And when a friend tells me âoh, just stop doing it, youâll be fineâ, I feel a mixture of anger and helplessness. This is not my battle to fight. I have enough other battles to fight, Iâd rather face them while feeling socially acceptable. Not beautiful, they donât give you that. Youâre just acceptable.
And if you wanted to practice what you preach, I wish I could give you my thick black body patches for a few months. Letâs see if you can just not do it when youâre wearing your cute jewelry, your cute skirt and your cute summer top.
