when it comes to older pkmn games, a lot of the NPCs had very little in the way of personality, or even being part of the story. BW changed that and that's why it's one of my favorite pkmn games. depoco were the first gym leaders that the player met, and so i think they shined and sparkled and heralded the new generation

that being said, they still didn't exactly have much of a personality going for them, just a few more lines and actions than normal. the appeal of pkmn chara though, is that you have such a blank slate to work with that you can get pretty invested, and so pokechara have a lot of fans~ i of course chose cress to latch onto and made a whole askblog for him! and then i turned him into a money-sexual condescending narcissist and it was the funniest thing and i should go back to making characters be exaggerated tropes for the bit, actually.
