Johnny Depp Took 'West Memphis Three' Acquitted Murderer to Disney World
Johnny Depp is one of those famous stars that have supported the West Memphis Three in terms of their claims of innocence. The three men were just teenagers when they were charged with the murder of three young boys. The three teens were charged because they dressed in dark clothing and were reportedly Satanists. There was no hard evidence, but the jury found them all guilty. Throughout the years, people have come forward, including Depp, to show support for releasing the three men. So why did Depp support the three men? He saw himself in them—the awkward teenager who didn’t know where he belonged.
In August of 2011, the three men were set free after winning an appeal. New evidence had come forward suggesting the men were innocent and they were set free after serving 18 years and 78 days in prison. Johnny Depp was thrilled at the news and decided to hang out with one of the men, Damien Echols. Oh yes, he wasn’t scared to contact a once-convicted killer, who may have been quite angry at spending 18 years in jail for something he didn’t do. Eighteen years could do lots of damage to someone, but Johnny Depp jumped at the chance.
So what did the two men do? They went to Disneyland because Damien had never been. “I went to Disneyland with Damien of the West Memphis Three. He had just gotten out of jail. He wanted to see Disneyland so I took him,” Depp explains in a recent interview with Aspen Peak magazine, according to Radar Online. “Afterwards we went and got tattoos together.”
What kind of tattoos Depp and Damien got is not detailed in the report, but surely they are memorable ones. What a guy that Johnny Depp! There are tons of women who would love to trade places with Damien to go on a date to Disneyland with Depp.
