Prompt: Something that involves Orisa saying her "Do you need a hug?" voiceline to reader.
The omnic carefully trots up behind you, taking a moment to pause and tilt her head in confusion as her sensors began to go off. To be frank, you didn’t look too good. You sat alone, hugging your knees to your chest as you gazed over the cliff side of Watchpoint Gibraltar. There was a look in your eyes that held a great emptiness, something that Orisa was trained to react to.
She slowly approaches you, trying not to startle her with her presence. She is concerned to see you don’t react much to her arrival. Orisa decides she shall sit beside you. She walks in a small circle, kicks up a little dirt, then sits with all four of her legs tucked neatly under her.
“My sensors indicate you are in distress,” she says bluntly. “Shall I read you the contact numbers of counseling services I have in my database?”
You do not respond.
“Studies show exercise improves one’s mood. Would you like to engage in training protocol?”
Still no response.
“Would you prefer a healthy snack?”
Nothing.
“Perhaps you need to socialize. The weather is lovely today. Scans show it will remain clear all week.”
You let out a sigh and slowly turn your body so Orisa is no longer in your peripheral vision. You think maybe if you show her you are not interested, she will leave. Oh boy, were you wrong.
Orisa grows more concerned. She gets back on her feet and trots around you so she can make eye contact. In opposition, you continue to turn and give her the cold shoulder. But, Orisa just continuously follows you, making sure she stays in your line of sight no matter how much you try to spin around. Boy, now you’re dizzy.
You lie back onto the dirt ground and throw one arm over your eyes, letting out a defeated whine. What would you have to do to get this stupid robot off your back?
Orisa does not speak. You just hear a gentle whirring from her as you assume she is looking through her files on what action to take next.
“Do you need a hug?”
Your body stiffens. You hesitate. Slowly, you remove your arm from your face and slowly sit back up, looking to Orisa in confusion. You ask that she repeats what she just said.
“Do you need a hug?” she asks once more.
You can’t believe it but you’re actually considering this. You look over Orisa’s body, unsure of just how comforting a hug from her would be. You see she opens her arms for you and the way her eyes lit up... it was just... wow, she really is just a walking ray of sunshine. You weren’t sure but you think you may have felt a smirk starting to form on your face. It’s been awhile since you expressed any semblance of joy.
Hesitantly, you rise to your feet, taking a moment to brush any loose dirt off of you. Then, you carefully step closer to Orisa, hoping she doesn’t accidentally break your spine with this hug. Does she even realize her own strength? One of her arms is a gun for pete’s sake. This may just kill you, yet you are still tempted to inch closer.
You open your arms and step into Orisa’s embrace, doing your best to wrap your arms around her but you cannot reach entirely. She wasn’t warm or soft, but when her arm closed around you, you felt... safe. You felt her pat your head like a child who didn’t know how to touch a dog and you couldn’t help but let out a little huff. (An attempt at a chuckle, at least.)
“Current outlook: optimal. Thank you for your compliance.”
You just shake your head in disbelief. To think you actually let an Omnic talk you into a hug and actually manage to cheer you up a bit. You weren’t quite sure what to feel about all this, but you had to admit this has helped just a bit.
You promptly pat Orisa’s back, signaling that you’d like her to let go and she does. The way she smiles at you with her eyes alone sends a gentle warmth coursing through your body.
“Do not worry,” she says softly. “Tomorrow is a new day. Leave your troubles behind.”
You give her a small thanks and quickly walk past her to get back to your bunk. She’s right, you think. Best get to bed now and say goodbye to this bad day.
As you walk away, Orisa gives you her signature wave before trotting off to do her own business.
The next morning, you wake up to find a sticky note attached to your door. It is a crudely drawn picture of Orisa’s face, smiling as always. It is surrounded by little pink hearts and honestly, it was the cutest thing you’ve seen in awhile. Next time you run into Orisa, you want to commend her on her artwork.
