Deputation From Cobalt to See Hon. W. J. Hanna
---
Notwithstanding the announcement that the Provincial Secretary will veto the licenses which have been issued to two hotels in Cobalt for the sale of wine and beer, a large deputation from the northern town is arranging to call on Mr. Hanna in the hope of having him reconsider his decision. The Provincial Secretary is out of the city, and is not likely to return until next week, so in the meanwhile the agitation will be allowed to ferment. There is little likelihood of the Government altering its position.
‘What the temperance people of Cobalt would like to see is the law we now have enforced; give that a good trial, then we would be prepared for something else,’ said Rev. E. J. Adams of Cobalt, Chairman of the New Liskeard district of the Methodist Church, in speaking to The Globe yesterday afternoon of conditions in the north country.
Mr. Adams said that much dissatisfaction was felt at the granting by the Provincial License Commissioners of two wine and beer licenses to places that were hotels. ‘You might just as well give them whiskey licenses and be done with it,’ was his comment.
