I’m about to Skype Ani to scream, because we are such grumpy historians. SO MUCH GRUMPY.

Agreed. And I’m really just carrying on the pride party, because that is something I’m very proud of this year. There are many things I’m not happy with, but I am still lucky to live in a country where it doesn’t matter where I live, or who I love, I can get married to them and no law in the land can stop me.
I don’t believe our government is corrupt, though I do believe that some citizens do not actually know what ‘heritage’ and ‘history’ mean (ie, the confederate flag) and will grip to antiquated symbols of hatred while refusing to accept that they are just that.
I know there is a deep seeded violence against minorites, but I am aware of it, I am aware of my white privilege and I attempt to do my best as an ally and not a spokesperson. I know most of my generation will never own houses, and we’ll probably never have retirement, but maybe we can fix that for our own children before we die.
Maybe we can save the US for our children, instead of leaving it worse than our parents are leaving it for us.
But for now, I’ll take the little victories I can get. Like finding a job with benefits, having marriage equality, knowing that our governor (who looks like Voldemort) will be out of office soon and take his double dealing with him. Knowing Trump is not going to survive this with anything that sponsored him because he decided to be an uneducated bigot next to a microphone.
There is that post about I love Captain America more than America, because Cap believes in Freedom and Equality, which is why I’m gonna wear my Cap shirt today, because it’s a hope that one day, America will get on Captain America’s level.
