Car Talk || Tom + Derek

Tom slouched down in the seat of Derek's ultra-luxe car as it sped back towards Manhattan. Riding in the passenger wasn't exactly as thrilling as driving it had been -- especially since Derek was the one who was now behind the wheel. Terrifying, he thought. That's what it is. It's not thrilling; it's terrifying. Terrifying...and silent.

They had exchanged less than a half dozen words since leaving the apartment earlier in the afternoon. Tom had paid for the car service that dropped them off, an hour later, at the impound lot in Flushing, Queens,, and Derek hadn't so much as uttered a 'thank you.' Nor did he express any appreciation when Tom paid the impound fee -- which, to be honest, wasn't as much as he'd expected it to be. It could've been so much worse.

"Well..." He drummed his hands against the dash, desperate to break the silence and distract himself from what seemed like an impending inevitable vehicular crash. "That wasn't so bad.”
