Tarani's lusus had never been fond of cooperating with her.
"Just... stay there!" She says, throwing her weight against Deermom's body. She had already locked her front door, bolted her windows, and turned off all of her lights in the vain hope of blocking a rather determined highblood from seeing her. Sandwiching her lusus against the door as a blockade was only the icing on the proverbial safety cake.
Or some equally unfitting comparison. Under normal circumstances, she may have declared it to be the "grubsauce on the grubloaf" (though she never was fond of that phrase) or the "cream in the coffee" (which was considerably better, but not necessarily universal). In any case, she's much too preoccupied to be worrying about precision of language. She has bigger fish to fry.
Her hive smells like a chaotic insult to her olfactory sensors -- different dishes from different tastes with different spices with different cook times and different styles were being simmered in her kitchen at the moment, and she can only imagine how Ovisia's order would add to the mess. She walks over to her kitchen after giving an "I'm watching you" look to her lusus in a way she felt was intimidating. She can practically see the grin on Deermom's face. "Youse better can it," she says in warning, and gives her a glare. Her mom gives a noncommittal blink, and Tarani interprets it as begrudging acceptance. With a huff, she turns to nurse a few dishes, taking a few off of her stove and onto nutrition plateaus with overly fancy designs on them. Impressing customers was a must.
She sterilizes her fingers (because some highbloods are downright convinced that lower bloods carry diseases) and garnishes one dish with bleatbeast blood, and another with pepper. She brings a pinch of the latter dish to her mouth and tastes it, is satisfied that it's worth paying for, and takes it to her food-transportation machine. She makes a point not to taste the former dish. Tarani punches in a few coordinates with her knuckle and sends the dishes away, where they will no doubt be devoured in seconds by particularly homicidal highbloods.
Not unlike the one that was probably going to be knocking on her door soon. She groans and finds her way onto her shabby couch, balding with use. Picking at a few stray fibers, Tarani glances up to her door, checking to make sure everything is secure.
Her lusus is gone, and has probably left her post to lounge about in her room. Tarani groans again and rubs her eyes with the heels of her palms. "Ma!" She yells, and after a minute she can hear the clopping of her lusus' hooves. Deermom nuzzles into her face obnoxiously, and Tarani pushes at her muzzle. "Stop it! I don't wanna cuddle," and saying so only makes her lusus start to nibble at one of her pigtails. Tarani groans again. "Can't you do anything I tell you to do? Anything?" Tarani says, and pushes at her. "Block the door. Now! I don't have time for this today," and she burrows her face into a flat pillow in frustration. Surprisingly, Deermom plops herself in front of the door and stays there, resting her head on one of Tarani's best rugs.
Tarani figures that her lusus will move once she's pressured to, but at least she feels somewhat safe now. Right?
