The scuttlebuggy driver looks at Arejda with trepidation. Arejda reminds him that he should keep his conformist eyes on the road if he knows what's good for him. She's had this driver before. He's a rustblood who attempts to make smalltalk with her. She doesn't mind that he's a rustblood, but she fucking hates smalltalk. It's conformist and unnecessary, and totally mainstream. The last time he tried it, she smashed the front of his car on the way out.

Apparently they weren't able to fix it. Arejda assumes that's some kind of safety hazard, and would've refused to ride in it, if it wasn't her fault in the first place. She might be non-conformist, but safety is definitely a priority. If something explodes in the car, there's sure to be a lot of blood. Plus, today she's carrying precious cargo in her sylladex.

In her sylladex today, is an original shovel, built out of the best steel that money can buy, and embellished with the perfect amount of titanium, for total hardcoreness. Inscribed on the handle is their new pact. "--->WE SWEAR ON OUR BLACK HEARTS AND SHARPENED MINDS THAT TO ROMANCE WE WILL NOT BIND.<---" And where the blade meets the shaft is the perfectly detailed spade. It's beautiful, simple, and elegant. Rings form around the rod that makes up it's shaft. Arejda is quite proud of her work.

The shuttlebuggy driver murmurs out a polite, "Please leave now," and Arejda finds herself in front of Cintil's meager hive. She'd be somewhat shocked at how meager it was, if she was not moirails with someone even poorer. She gets out of the cab, and knocks on the hive door. Getting the shovel out of her sylladex by rhyming "thing that digs" with "looks kind of like two pigs (if you squint your eyes a little bit.)" and waits outside the door.

A first meeting between Cintil and Verdox culminates in a getting-to-know-you session and an impromptu rap battle.

It was time. It was the time. The game had begun, she had done her part, got Ana in safely, it was all going well.  Yet, the undeniable feeling of doubt sat like a rock in Averie's stomach. It was terrible, really. She hadn't been able to do anything after getting Ana in, the looming danger was driving her crazy. Shaky hands became shakier and the voices that had once been a low hum had reached a ridiculous crescendo -- it had become a loud, blaring siren. In an attempt to stop it, put it off in anyway possible, Averie cleaned. The hive was a mess, as per usual; books, twigs, cups and pots lay scattered around the room. Cornix was a pain and had left several dead beasts on her floor. Sometimes she wondered if her lusus was more meowbeast than cawbeast. Everything had taken a slightly obsessive notion to Averie. The books had to be stacked three times until it was deemed acceptable. The cups and pans washed and washed and stacked and re-stacked.  The hive was spotless. Her excuses were wearing thin. Somehow she found herself sitting in the windowsill, trolltop and book near by, Cornix perched on her knee. Outside, through the foliage of the trees, she could see the clouds covering the sky in a thick blanket. No stars could be seen, none peeked through the holes and the moon was lost to her eyes.
