@dot-speckter; El, you were such a special surprise, in so many ways. Admittedly, I find I can sometimes be subconsciously wary of OCs from brand new members, if only because I know it can be a lot of work for both parties to get bio and verse details right during the application process, and because sometimes the trend in RPs is that people who apply with OCs right off the bat have a harder time getting integrated into the verse. I often have to remind myself that this is really not always the case: and it’s people and applicants like you who always make me so grateful for opening up to the kinds of promises OCs can bring.
You were such a delightful addition to our little family. Kind, playful and just about the sweetest thing we ever did meet, we all adore having you on the dash and in the OOC—but that is something so obvious it hardly needs to be said. What I think is even more important to highlight about your time with us, is what a delight Dot has been to watch grow and evolve on the dash. One of my favourite things about her is that though she is ‘shy’ and ‘nervous’ she is anything but a cliché. With characters like that, it can be so easy to accidentally fall into certain tropes and categories as writers, and to face limitations and roadblocks as a consequence. But Dot is somehow as fierce as she is soft, and that my dear, is such a beautiful thing—especially because it is what makes her such a raw and real character. People aren’t cookie cutter templates made up of labels or margins—they are complex and multidimensional and often unpredictable, and I really respect how quickly you established this with Dot, and how you have continued to explore a variety of different kinds or relationships and development.
In many ways, both you and Dot have become a figure in Colony 22 that we all seem determined to protect. And though I am so fond of the natural dynamic that has arisen (Dot = ’must protecc’) I know the truth is that neither you, nor she, needs protecting. She is a woman with an irrefutably sharp mind and even braver heart, and we simply adore her for it—as we adore you.
Thank you, El, for all the time you have spent with us so far. You will always have a home here at Colony 22 and we’ll be sure to keep your seat warm even in times when you’re away. ❤
