Another Adventure with Photography Friend & Zuka
So we’re planning our next shoot at the end of the yr, which is basically an Elisabeth musical cos shoot, and this inevitably leads to source & reference talk. So after an hour my Photographer Friend’s understanding of Elisabeth das Musical is...
Tod is a gender-blind casted character cuz they’re not human and some productions (like Germany) interpret Tod as male and some (Japan) interpret them as female. Now using all my Zuka ref pics, he has pieced together a “Lady Tod” AU (though it’s very canon to him). “What’s that?” you might be wondering, well let me give you a synopsis:
Lady Tod, Queen of Hell, is the baddest bitch ever. No one messes with her and she always gets her way until one day this human girl flat out tells her “no” for the first time in eternity. Lady Tod suddenly has feelings & doesn’t know how to deal. She goes to the human world to hunt Sissi down cuz no one rejects Lady Tod, especially an insignificant mortal. Sissi’s kinda in the closet & in a bid to be “normal” marries some dude name Franz Joseph who happens to be a rich, powerful, and handsome king but despite all that the marriage just isn’t working cuz she’s a lesbian and obviously not into him & everyone needs to accept that. Lady Tod (who could be actual Queen of Hell or maybe a personification of Sissi’s Lesbian Id, open to interpretation) totally sees through Sissi & is trying to get her ass out of the closet & into her cold & loving embrace. But Sissi’s still in denial & this frustrates Tod so she goes & seduces her son Rudolf to suicide to force Sissi to pick her because Tod can be an asshole like that. Anyways, fast forward a bit & Sissi finally comes out of the closet & she goes up the waterfall lift w/ Tod. The End.
Notable Lady Tod’s have been skillfully performed by the cool beauty Sena Jun and the suave Asaka Manato, who greatly outshone her twin brother who starred as Lord Tod in a...Zuka production, maybe at the Tokyo Theatre. Let’s call him Maa-chan. Maa-chan’s a one trick pony & should try some new poses like his sister (some otokoyaku are so convincing he forgets Zuka is an all-women opera sometimes, talk about pro skillz)
For the sake of this shoot, I think we’re going to go with this interpretation. I mean, what is gender to an immortal deity anyways. Tod is whatever the hell they want. So looks like there’s a “girl shoot” on the horizon after all...Fun times. :D
Honestly, I’m curious how this will turn out since he is not very informed about any type of theatre let alone their quirks, tropes, & trademarks. The photos may wind up looking wildly different than we’re used to in style. Can’t wait!
