No .. nothing’s wrong at all with these elephants .. while it’s uncommon for elephants to actually or habitually lie down to sleep the #desertelephant will lie down in the shade to preserve energy & evade the relentless sun / heat of the Namib .. contrary to misinformation from some schools of thought lying down does not endanger the elephant in any way. Tracking wild animals is never easy especially when they are not collared. Each sighting is a combination of more luck (being in the right place at the right time) than actual tracking skills. Yes it helps to have a good understanding of animal behaviour & knowing how to ‘read the signs’ of animal activity in a particular area gives a tracker / tour guide some sort of advantage.
