A couple different blogs I follow have been talking about Melon and I think I've made a post to this effect before but wanna throw my 2 cents in here.

Learning about Melon's parents in the final arc are the strongest indicator imo that there was a fast shitty rewrite of the ending. They're supposed to show how Melon's not a monster by nature, the way he's been treated ever since he debuted, but because he was abandoned and abused. The half of that through-line on Legoshi's side is him learning about carni/herbi hybrids and having to grapple with what that might mean for his future with Haru.

But the thing is, Legoshi never learns about Melon's past. He starts doing his victory lap about how he'll NEVER let his kids turn out like Melon! Except, from his perspective, there's nothing that'd lead him to believe Yahya or Deshico were wrong about carni/herbi hybrids. Maybe he could learn about his dad later from Gosha but the only person positioned to actually know what Melon's deal is, probably way before the audience ever did if he did the bare minimum detective work, is Yahya.

Yahya, the same guy who tied clearing Legoshi's record so he could get married with helping him capture Melon in the first place. In a sting that absolutely did not require Legoshi to be there and Legoshi ended up completely fucking up. Specifically to show him how dangerous it'd be to marry a rabbit girl by showing him how inherently fucked up and evil hybrids are.

If they remembered Yahya was supposed to be a bad guy it might actually be a really cool plan and interesting final conflict instead of a wet fart that undermines basically everything preceding it.

I don’t like that so much beastars fanfic takes for a fact that carni/herbi hybrids can’t taste or be horny, cause the only two sources we have for that information are Melon and Deshico who are, respectively, a chronic liar drama queen with severe cptsd and god knows what else, and a literal pureblood supremacist attempting genocide via criminal organization.

I don’t doubt there might be some weirdness in a lot of basic drives like that, like a deer and a wolf have totally different diets so they’d have totally different pallets, one has a rutting season and the other doesn’t, but nothing should make it just, cancel out like that.
