the wind brushed against her skin and yours. you kept a steady hand against her back as you pressed the needle into her skin, the ink filling the hole. the damp napkin you held helped wipe the excess blood that spilled down, catching it before it ruined the cloth of her saree. sevika keeps her breath steady, breathing in and out slowly, trusting you. her eyes focused on the sky, the clouds scattered around, the sun setting with yellows and oranges mixed with the light and darkish tints of blue.
the cigarette had been between her plump lips, the butt of the cigarette falling onto the ground, tobacco and smoke stains left on the decorated carpet underneath you two.
you two sat in front of the large marble statue of her, offerings around it with foods she loved as a child. you stop pressing the needle, watching her turn to her right, bringing the plate with a bowl that had freshly made besan ke gatte in it and roti on the side. she turns to you, wincing a little at the fresh pain, breaking the roti. she takes the spoon with besan ke gatte on it and pours some of it on the roti. her prosthetic hand bringing it to your mouth.
you hold in a smile and shake your head, tilting it to the right, she raises a brow. “you haven’t eaten in a while, come on.” she beckons, your eyes look up to the beach, the sounds of the waves getting stronger as it gets darker out. the candles that had been around her statue kept it from being too hard to see.
“fine.” you whisper, opening your mouth, sevika places the food in, watching you close your mouth as you chew. you hum, taking in the different flavors and textures, sevika makes herself some, enjoying it with you. “s’good?” she asks, you nod, and take another napkin, cleaning your hands before you go back to work.
sevika positions herself in the way you want, finishing her cigarette and placing it in the small bowl you bought her where all the other cigarettes she smoked had been.
she continues to eat, you stop every once in a while as she feeds you. after a while, the bowl and roti are finished, placed to the side. you did one last clean on her back, admiring your artwork, symbols, and words written in her language, some secret love words you placed on her. sevika turns her head to you and smiles, you look up at her, pressing a kiss on her cheek. “mmh, let me see.” she lets out sweetly, you listen, bringing the mirror to her, she looks back a little, reading the words you left her.
the wind stings her back a little, and some candles go out. sevika smiles still and hums, covering herself back up with her saree as you help. placing the mirror on the concrete, you make sure her saree does not rub against her back too hard.
the love letters you wrote stayed underneath her knee, making sure they didn’t blow away, “thank you, you did amazing as always.” she sighs, you smile and stand, stretching your body. “you trust me enough to do well.” you shrug, stepping over to stand in front of her now. sevika giggles and hums, wrapping her hands around your waist as she pulls you closer, you lean down on your knees in front of her, wrapping your hands around the back of her neck.
you lean closer, the tip of her nose brushes yours as you two giggle. “hmm, i trust you with everything.” sevika confesses, you nod, your lips grazed hers, before closing your eyes. her plump lips open slightly, pressing over your upper lip as you suck her bottom lip, her tongue pushes out and slips into your mouth. her hands pull you closer, turning your body to the carpet, her right hand moves to your head, keeping you from hurting it as you land on your back.
you gasp, keeping your eyes closed while sevika’s nose brushes against your cheek, her thumb moves to your lip, pulling it down a little. you two giggle again, her fast breathing matching yours and the waves of the sea as it gets stronger.
“mujhe tumse pyar hai.” she whispers, her lips press your collarbone, leaving another kiss above your bellybutton. leaning over you, she smiles. you bring a hand up to her face, cupping her cheek, sevika leans into your touch, turning her face to kiss your palm down to your wrist. you laugh and pull your hand back playfully.
you pull sevika with you, letting her rest on top, her head staying against your chest, your fingers moving to her scalp, rubbing it. “i love you.” you reply, your soul feeling as if it fainted against hers.
sevika looks up at you, eyes grey and bright as the moon, her fingers rubbing your ribcage, her lips covered in your lipstick marks and your lips and body covered in hers.
the moon hung high in the distance, the waves calming down as it reflected the moon’s light. the wind keeps your bodies cool as you hold sevika, the candles flicker, highlighting the shadows of her face and yours. sevika pressed another kiss on your chest before laying her head back on it and closing her eyes, the warmth of you and your love letters keeping her safe.
