Mohini says her speech of love on the planet Venus
I've fallen away from desi tv almost entirely over the last few years and my only point of occasional contact is my Instagram explore page, so I was Not Prepared to start seeing clips of what look like AU Gopi, Kokila and Aham in what has turned out to be a weird off-brand reboot of Saath Nibhana Saathiya called Tera Mera Saath. It even airs on the budget Star Plus aka Star Bharat.
This is after I learned, via similar process, that there are reboots of Sasuraal Simar Ka(!), Bade Achhe Lagte Hai, Pavitra Rishta (the first is on air and the other two are in different stages of production). Oh, and they brought Nakuul and Disha together again for BALH!
Ekta ofc led the pack with KZK2 a few years ago. And Gul followed up quickly with the Secret Agent AU!Qubool Hai a year or so ago.
This is the logical next step in an industry that ran out of content roughly in 2006 but that doesn't make it any less exhausting.
MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH?!!
Just caught the last 10 minutes of the epi, and fucking hell!!! I just want to know what the fuck kinda cheap crack is Harneet smoking? I don't even know where to start? Apparently, Rudra's discovered the dark web where he's found some shady site which sells fucking Tigers? A site which, get this, also sells "Royal Flowers." Amazon ain't got shit on this super secret website which sells both flowers and endangered animals( I guess only rich folk know about it). All in a day’s work, right?!! 🙄
I know Rudra is dumb as bricks but is he also blind? Illiterate? Can't he read? Can't he differentiate between Royal Bengal tiger and Royal fucking flowers? Which btw, don't even exist. Since when are orchids called Royal flowers? Did i miss something? At least use a plausible name like, I dunno, Tiger Lily (which is a real flower btw) to justify this confusion which shouldn't even exist in the first place.
And wtf was that precap? Gauri has completely lost her marbles it seems. Now she's decided to follow Bua maa's footsteps and drug people with shady aphrodisiacs (lbr, it's probably the same secret jadi booti stash bua maa used). Poor Omkara looked so traumatised. Must've been flashing back to when Bua maa drugged his poor ass and he ended up in a coma for 3 months.
Harneet, man, what the hell do you smoke? Or inject? Or snort? Cause my life's literal hell rn and I need something that gives me the highs your drugs give you. It looks like you only need to do it once and you're set for life. Cause your imagination is a gift that just keeps on giving. As if CGI people, snakes, crocodiles weren't enough you thought it would be even funnier if you introduced fucking tigers for the LOL’s too. Wow. Slow claps. 👏👏👏👏 Kya imagination hai memsahab! 👏👏👏 Next year ka Oscar pakka. 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Hi!! Do you know other sites/places that sell clothing similar to the stuff worn on Ishqbaaz? Even if it's casual - like I really like Anika's dresses lately!! Thanks for your info
Hi anon!
I’m not caught up to the very latest episodes (I’m still watching the mid-Jan eps), so I’m not aware if Anika’s style has changed drastically in this last one month, but you’d be able to find the desi-fusion casual stuff that Anika wears on a variety of Indian online retailers like myntra, jabong, limeroad, flipkart, etc.
Here’s some stuff I found on those sites, which are like the clothes Anika wears on a daily basis:

The issue is that most of these sites, if not all, mostly only ship within India. :/ If you have family in India who are willing to receive and then ship stuff to you, then it works out perfect! Or order up if/when you plan a trip to India!
You could also try retailers such as Utsav Fashion, Cbazaar, and Craftsvilla, which ship internationally, but they seem to have more “traditional” stuff, rather than the simple stuff Anika wears. But take a look to see if the stuff is to your liking! :)
Trials of Desi TV #4
Ok the supernatural content on Desi TV has gotten completely out of hand, I agree, BUT it has made room for the most incredible gymnastics I have seen yet.
Manmohini, Reyhna Malhotra's witchy offering on Zee TV with our old friend, Budget Siddharth Malhotra from Rishton Ka Chakravyuh had this scene recently- One Dai Ma's decapitated but sentient HEAD was suspended above super fake CGI fire, by her hair. Head checks for the witch's presence and proceeds to SWING itself off the hook or whatever. And manages to evade the fire, falling some distance away. Given there is no neck or body attached to the head, this kind of momentum is really fucking impressive. But the feat doesn't stop there. The head hops up a set of stairs, along a road, into the hero's haveli and lands at the hero and heroine's bedroom door. It then KNOCKS on the door, calling for the protagonists. Sadly, the head's hard work is a waste because the protagonists aren't nearly as enterprising, even with their bodies intact. By the time the heroine decides to open the door, the witch's taken the head away. Drat them all. Anyway, this is some intense competition for Nazar.
On a finer note, I returned to Raja Rasoi aur Anna Kahaniyan from Epic. Netflix has a bunch of the best Epic shows, including this one, and it's a real joy. If you like watching stuff about food, especially a well-researched, thoughtful, poetic take on some of India's considerable wealth of cuisines, you're going to want to watch this. It examines the food of a place via political history, geography, demographic history, economics, religion and whatnot. PSA: Do not watch while hungry. Not even peckish.
A recent trip to the motherland (of sorts) has had me dabbling in Star Jalsha's lineup. Very reassuring to see that children on TV are equally annoying across languages. I most assuredly do not recommend Gudiya Jekhane Guddu Shekhane or whatever that weepy trainwreck is called. Otoh, I mildly dug the hero-heroine equation on Irabotir Chupkotha. It was reminiscent of IPKKND, only with a much sadder hero and a more mature heroine. Hey, you win some, you lose some. There's an adaptation of a romantic novel that made a sensational splash in the 70s, Ami Sirajer Begum. I've heard my mom talk about sneakily reading the book while her dad was out because she was Not Allowed to read it. Don't get your hopes up, though, cos it's just usual parental moral panic. There's not only nothing that will shock the average desi tv viewer, they have the most milksoppy dude playing Siraj-ud-daulah. I crie. I also can't believe how casually Vikram Chatterjee has returned to playing hero on Phagun Bou. Was he not convicted in the Sonika Chauhan case? Is he out on bail? He's not even Salman Khan! I joke, but there is real rage here.
Anyway, I'm going to round up with two announcements--
1. MTV Roadies has returned, thank heaven. With something called Real Heroes wherein people who've done remarkable things irl will join the usual tv wannabes. Even Roadies is trying to be better than it is, kya din aa gaye. Like, just do your nautanki and go na.
2. My sister made me watch Ready Player One, recently, and I'm in splits because it turned out to be a romcom masquerading as Serious Sci-Fi. She was gibbering with rage by the end.
Trials of Desi TV #2
I understand how reality shows work. I really do. And yet, I continue to watch some of desi tv’s absolute bottom-of-barrel stuff-- MTV reality shows. Namely, Roadies and India’s Next Top Model. (Ok, occasionally Splitsvilla too, but without any investment.) INTM, on its 4th season now, is my one real hate-watch. I don’t deploy this term lightly. I actually do enjoy watching most of my shady things and not “ironically haha.” But there’s a lot of self-loathing involved with INTM.
The contestants are terrible and improve little over time. I dislike every single judge and mentor (I suppose I’m indifferent about Daboo Ratnani, but he has the presence and personality of flat, tepid soda, so he makes absolutely no difference.) And I rarely agree with the judgments. The makeover episodes are stunningly bad. They invariably pick weirdass photos as the models’ ‘best pictures.’ The clothes they model are butt-ugly 8 out of 10 times. All this is to say, I have no idea why I watch this show with no redeeming factors that I can think of.
But watch I do, and in this season, we’ve just said goodbye to Tamanna, who took up 85% of camera-commentary time by just being a relentless, vicious bitch to every single other contestant there. I get how this goes, which is why I prefaced this post the way I did. But I’ve rarely seen anything like Tamanna’s nonstop assholery even as she’s an incredibly incompetent model. Not even Princess Parina of last season. Like Parina, Tamanna’s gone just in time for the finale so MTV wrung as many eyeballs as possible out of her drama without making the whole thing even more of a farce than it is. (Urvi better win this shit.)
Can’t wait for Tamanna to pop up on Splitsvilla.
Also, with all the low-hanging fruit you can dunk on Priyanka Chopra with, can’t believe The Cut (of all publications) went with that bizarre, incoherent, poorly-written, rambling nonsense. She has such terrible politics and displays it constantly. And your chosen angle is that in the Nickyanka relationship, Priyanka is the ‘scammer’ and Nick the ‘scamee’? LMAO
Also also, as one friend eloquently put it, Rohit Shetty really out here establishing his own extended universe! We’re going to be answerable to future generations for more things than I can count and this is definitely one of them.
