Me when I want to make an oc:

Spends time, energy, and blood, making multiple drafts, then taking the time to find colors/color the final product.

Brain: wait a minute, drawing this felt way too familiar, I'm getting a sense of deja vu for some reason

and !!!! i don’t want to Purposely base any of my ‘verses on Real Life Information. the whole point of the ‘verses is to escape from that. for my fucking sanity.

i don’t know. whatever. endless design hell. i’ve talked about it before.

like. grrrr. my character designs would not be considered Good. the best character i have designed is probably whimsy.

but then asking “what can be inferred about this character’s personality and history based on their design?” is . not a question that i can answer i think.

you see, they are (loosely) a clown. and a liar. and a little bit of a trickster. with a history of…. …… ….. 👍

+ i see Characters that are very very cool + some that have Real Life Historical Elements but i don’t know the context of their outfit in the story. or in real life. and that makes me feel Very Not Good about everything :(

꩜꩜꩜. i think what Gets Me abt character design and readability is that i don’t understand it… i can sometimes pick up on what people call “bad” character design but i think i mostly just Don’t Get It!!! like. what some people say is Bad Character Design, i really really like and enjoy :( so naturally it’s subjective which makes it harder ? to understand for me :(

+ esp like !!! using Game I LoveHate (✨) and it’s… sister/cousin games as an example — I Really Like Them!!! their silhouettes are readable to me and their outfits are understandable from both a characterization perspective and a storytelling perspective !!!! i think they could be More, but i do overall really like them!!! i am also Biased…. wah :(

i don’t think i can tell anything about a character by their design ever !
