Make WRITING As Fun As Possible For Your Kid.
The moment you think of making the kid to write, you have nightmares. Kids start to think of all sorts of excuses like I don't have pencil, feeling hungry, going to bathroom again and again, and lead of the pencil breaking again and again and so on....
God knows why they feel writing to be so tedious but it is one of our prime responsibilities to make them like it and not run away from it. And this era of mobiles, tablets and phablets makes it all the more essential.
So, looking at many young parents woes, we thought, it would be quite helpful to research and jot down a few points on how to make writing interesting and fun for kids.
Read rich literature of all genres to your child. Talk about how the author used certain soft words instead of direct and harsh ones. Point out the climax and talk to your child if he makes it different in any other way. Or try and make it funny which will make your kid think in different possible ways of an outcome.
Give them the freedom to just write/draw without over correcting spellings, letter formation, etc. Many a times, in order to teach the right way, we tend to correct every minute thing but this action has every possibility that the child will just develop fear or shy away from doing the task again.
So, give them a "judgment free zone”.
Let them write about things that interest them. Do not force them to write on a particular topic that might interest you but might not be fascinating to the kid. Even if he wants to write 'The Elephant story' for the 10th time, let it be. The kid is writing at least and moreover as he writes, he will think upon various things to include and exclude and that is what is required.
Festivals can be more useful than you ever thought. It will be an ideal time to make them design a card and write something in it.
I would like to remind again that, not every misspelling or incorrect convention has to become a “teachable moment” or mini lesson. Sometimes kids just want someone to encourage their creativity, not nit-pick their every mistake.
Provide writing prompts {with limits}. I’m not a huge advocate of writing prompts, but I think creative writing prompts can spark an idea sometimes
Organize your home for writing or provide some fun writing manipulative.
Treat them as a “real” author by putting the books they’ve written on the bookshelf to be read…right along with all your other books.
Often writers are frustrated because they do not have someone to write TO. Kids need an audience. Someone who will respond to their creation, ask questions, or comment. Give them feedback. That audience or reader can make writing more authentic and much more meaningful to young writers. This is why I think letters to others are a great tool. There’s a built-in audience just by nature of writing a letter.
Now is the time to get your hands on beautiful notebooks online which will make half of your effort to inspire your child easy. Here are some Designer Notebooks with quirky and cool designs on cover page, handmade Notebooks with eco-friendly touch and pocket pads or wiro pads.
I Dig Kate!
Call me ignorant, but I had no idea that Kate Spade did stationery..possibly because it’s only just come to the UK – Quilllondon.comhave started selling them (just so you know – they haven’t asked me to write this! I just love it!) It’s fab…utterly charming, witty..and I want some! The prices are not silly for a bit of designer magic – from £20 – £28 – which makes them the ideal gift..now it’s…
