These are the New Google Pixel Phones

Android lovers got a big surprise this year when Google launched its first ever Pixel Phones. Hardcore Android nerds will point out that earlier Nexuses (Nexii?) also carried Google branding but we won’t go down the rabbit hole of what exactly a Google Phone is. What Android smartphone users have wanted for a long time is a truly flagship specced device that also has a un-skinned or pure version of Android, which also gets timely updates, as soon as Google releases them. Till now you either had mid-range Nexus that always came with infuriating compromises like crappy cameras and middling build quality, or Samsung’s flagship Galaxy series that were heavily skinned and painfully slow to receive updates. 

The Pixel changes everything. 

For the first time in India and around the world users can buy a true flagship Android device and it couldn't be simpler either. Log on to your country’s Google Play Store and buy a Pixel or Pixel XL for yourself. That’s right, the Pixel is available in a larger XL size with a larger, higher resolution display, though with the poor screen to body ratio, the larger device is bit of a handful for all but the tallest people. Which iPhone 7 should you get?

With the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus about to be released in India very soon, there are thousands of people looking to upgrade iPhones or to jump on to the iOS bandwagon. If you're one of these people and have been unable to make up your mind about which iPhone 7 flavour you're going to get, congratulations on having #firstworldproblems. Joking aside though, lets quickly break down what’s new and what’s different between the 7 and its bigger Plus version.

 First, lets cover what is the same. Both the iPhone 7 and the Plus are available in the exact same colours. There are two new colours for 2016, a charcoal-like, Matte Black and a very shiny Jet Black that is only available on the 128 and 256 Gb versions of both phones. However, in a surprisingly forthright manner, Apple itself warns that the Jet Black version is very prone to scratches and scuffs so is best kept in a case. Even if you aren't worried about scratches or scuffs the new Jet Black iPhones are complete fingerprint magnets and will end up looking awful with just a few minutes of use. Getting yourself an iPhone 7 case or an iPhone 7 Plus cover for whichever new iPhone you end up buying, is thus a great idea.

 As you’ve probably noticed, both phones also improved storage tiers, starting at 32, then 128 and going all the way up to 256 Gb. The iPhone 7 Plus gets an extra gigabyte of RAM, which takes it to 3 Gb, versus the smaller iPhone 7 with just 2 Gb.

 Also ( and you’ve definitely heard this one) neither new iPhone has a headphone jack. That’s right. It’s Lightning or nothing. Actually they Apple does give you a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack in case you want to live the #donglelife and use your old headphones.

 Which brings us the the biggest difference between the two phones (besides the physical and screen size, of course) The iPhone 7 Plus has a very fancy dual camera setup with 2 cameras with different focal length lenses on them. What this mean is that you can actually zoom without getting distorted photos on the 7 Plus. It also does beautiful, DSLR-like portrait photos with bokeh, by combining images from both cameras into a single image. The iPhone 7 gets optical image stabilisation, which was limited to the Plus version of the 6 last year.

 The tradeoff however is that the bumps on the iPhones are now more prominent than every before. With the 7 Plus there is actually a double bump, necessitated by the dual camera setup. While this may put off some users, we think that you should be using an iPhone 7 case anyway, whether you buy the regular or Plus version.  Our iPhone 7 designer cases are available in both Slim and a Tough versions.
