FEW WORDS FROM THE DESIGNER
I was thinking, it would maybe be nice to share some of my thoughts and few words about designing the Petite Sofa with you.
Since I remember I am sorrounded by pets: cats, dogs, birds, even mice and all other amazing creatures. With my mum being a biologyst our house was always full of animals and our lives were full of observing and taking care of them. My profound desire for creating beautiful objects turned into studying industrial – product design and this had a great impact on all levels of my life. I started to look at objects from different perspectives, always asking; “can this be improved?” Not only from the function point of view, but being a woman allways triggered an aesthetic point of view in me. Me and my partner was getting pretty tired of searching lovely designed products for our cats, so one day, we looked at eachother and said: “let's do something about it!”. After that, my search and analysis for the Petite Sofa began. I then took a lot of time to think, observe and research all products already available on the market, but knew from the beggining, that I want to design something really different. Something of simple minimalistic shape and sleek modern look, something functional yet beautiful. Something, that will not be hidden in the corner of your flat, but will stand like a masterpiece in the most visible spot of your living room. And yes, something our cats will simply love to use.
I also wanted to design a product with a longer lifespan, not a product that gets out of shape in few months, but something cats - pets can use for years.
After a year and a half of designing and prototyping, a Petite Sofa was born. Selecting the colors and materials was very fun to do, but also a very demanding task. I hope I’ve succedded in choosing something for every taste, bold or reserved, funky or romantic. I wanted to keep the shape very minimalistic, so it can fit in just about every style of interior. Our cats were involved in developing the product all the way. They have tested every step, every cushion, new material and every new shape of the Petite Sofa and confirmed or rejected my thinking. I am very grateful to them for bringing up or opening new problems within the product development and then showing me the way to go. But the Petite Sofa is not designed only as a cat bed, it can also be a modern dog bed, since small dogs are also very happy to use it. Still, the dog should not exceed the weight or size of 12 kg / 26.46 Lbs. We have found out, that the memory foam cushion is very popular among pets and they love to nap on it.
Hope this was interesting for you to read, I will add some more of my thoughts on this blog later. So, check out my work on www.petbaroque.com and leave a comment, tell me what you think about it, thanks. :)
