Originally in chapter 5, I thought blue roses were meant to convey mystery, but in-fact convey wishing to obtain the unattainable. This is much like the flower’s dreams that will just remain that.. dreams! Something of the imagination that will never truly come to fruition!
According to a retelling of a story with unknown origin (presumed to be Chinese Folklore), an emperor seeks a suitable husband for his daughter. His daughter believes she is much too young to marry, but will if it’s for one thing… a blue rose. One brought a painted blue rose, one a rose sewn of silk, another woven of illusions, then one carved out of sapphire, and lastly, a rose tinted blue by a talented alchemist. The only one the daughter accepted was one of the gardener’s son whom she was particularly fond of. He brought her not a blue rose, but a white one and she said yes. Everyone was confused by her decision and yet they lived together happily.
As such, the roses have gained this symbolism. Blue roses can also mean unattainable love based on the story in some ways too. If you think about how things ended up with Blue and Yellow, you can see why blue roses were used so much during the game.
Truly beautifully heartbreaking..
