Going Green with Today's Youth

Don’t believe that age is just a number? We’ve found an article on BioFriendly.com that details seven ways today’s youth has helped with environmental sustainability – A cause very near and dear to our hearts. Check them out!

1. A 13-year-old boy designed a solar array, based entirely on the Fibonacci design of the oak tree! 

2. A team of architectural and business students designed this self-shading, insulation using, and surface reflecting building.

3. Middle school students created a green business rating system for sustainable business practices.

4. What about this “eco-friendly, bio-gas furnace" for a local Hindu crematorium? 

5. Or on that note, this eco-friendly hand dryer? 

6. Then there are student groups and organizations, like teensturninggreen.org who both initiate change and inspire others to join them. 

7. Finally, there's the first Net Zero Energy School in the U.S.

Remember - It’s never too late or too soon to begin helping our planet – No matter what age you are! Are you ready to create some change?

Every now and then, DMB comes across a really unique idea that coincides with our mission. We found this and we just had to share it with you!

Key to the Street, according to an article on FastCoExist.com, is “a new citizen-planning tool, allows for just this. Using your phone, it lets you take a photograph of a site, and immediately start sketching and filling in features. You can then share your concept with the city government, and allow others to riff on your ideas.”

the design museum boston is a new kind of museum and a newcomer to new england. believing that design is for everyone, the DMB's mission is to educate and to unite the Massachusetts design community in ways that enrich our collective work, make businesses more competitive, and solve real-world problems more creatively. 

with no physical location, the DMB brings design to the people. its most recent exhibit - street seats - featured designs from individuals and teams from around the world who were asked to reimagine the public bench. street seats draws attention to the design that is around us that we may not realize.

son & dotter is now an official member partner of the DMB and supports the notion that good design should be accessible for everyone, smart and meant for everyday use. clear tenets of scandinavian design. you can read more here about the benefit you can receive from our shop by supporting DMB.

In a little over a year, Design Museum Boston has grown from an idea conceived by a pair of local designers into an innovative nomadic museum at the forefront of design education and promotion. I’m a proud volunteer of this up-and-coming institution. In November, we opened our first major exhibit, Creative Capital: Designed in Boston. We’ve forged important partnerships with organizations like Smallbean, a Boston-based nonprofit, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority. We’ve gained the support of over 3,000 friends and followers, many of whom made it out to celebrate the release of our new branding at Continuum in January. Bostonians are excited about design, and so are we. With your help, Design Museum Boston can continue its work educating the public about local design, and the design industry’s potential to foster positive social change. Design Museum Boston is currently an entirely volunteer-run organization. By making a donation today, you’ll ensure the success of the exhibitions, programs, and outreach initiatives we have planned for 2011 and beyond.
